A whole lot of orange on the nose, with softer vanilla notes rounding things out. A viscous mouthfeel, with a semi-sweet character oddly reminiscent of bubble gum. The overall flavor is orange citrus, with a neat dose of bitter herbs to bring things into balance. Quite refreshing and easy going, this is a great substitute for Aperol in a spritz, or over ice with an orange half moon as a garnish. A well done and tasty amaro that is sure to find a home on many back bars.

Still quite juniper forward on the nose, with a slight rosey floral perfume. A surprisingly round mouthfeel, leaving the pine-like intensity softened by the elderflower. The initial bright crispness of the juniper berry leads quickly to a mildly fruity and rose petal infused character. The effect is downright delicious, with a whole new realm of flavor possibilities brought forth. We really like this new iteration and its gentle touch with what could have been overpowering botanicals. We will we using this in a variety of gin cocktails for weeks to come. Highly recommended.

Hardin's Creek Kentucky Series - Clermont
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA

Tight, high, spicy rye nose with a muscled intensity. On the tongue, the entry is quickly sweet and smooth, then bursts into a rye bomb, with a rich and assertive character. A super long finish ending with a touch of molasses and full city roast coffee. This is a killer rye. Everything we look for in this style of whiskey is abundantly here. A fantastic spirit for sipping on a single, large rock, or used as the stunning base in a rye based cocktail. We approve.

Rich, fulsome agave nose with a fresh character. Quite vegetal. On the tongue, it has a round and nigh creamy mouthfeel, with a clean agave flavor percolated with peppery notes and a hint of toasted marshmallow and wood tannins. A long and drying finish, leaving the palate refreshed and awaiting the next sip. The additional heft of the ABV gives a boost to craft cocktails that demand a bit more notice. We like the overall profile for those looking to experience the purest form of a blanco.

Four Roses 135th Anniversary Limited Edition Small Batch Bourbon (2023)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 5, 2023A familiar Four Roses perfume greets the nose, filled with high esters, warm toffee, woody tonality, baking spice and a rich grain bill. Quite inviting. At 112 proof, it is still quite drinkable with the myriad of flavors all tightly bound into a neat package. The mouthfeel is medium-heavy, with a lot of the high notes dominating the overall approach. After a half a minute, more of the inher0ent flavors come out to play. A healthy dose of oak and char lead the parade followed by lighter notes of tobacco, brown bread, dark molasses, roasted coffee bean, and a touch of burnt caramel. The finish is long and fades out at a steady pace. A very nice anniversary expression that offers a rare chance to try a unique blending of venerable bourbons. -
A darkening, dusky nose of rich wood and malted barley, lightened somewhat by the wheat. The flavor is cohesive, with a slight bitter tang that reminds us of a sour mash. Some burnt bread and peppery rye also are on display. A heavy mouthfeel with a very long finish. This one needs some water to open up and allow the flavors to breathe. An unusual experiment that needs a little tweaking.

Old Elk Master's Blend Series Double Wheat Straight Whiskey

Reviewed October 5, 2023 (edited March 12, 2024)Sweet, smooth nose expressing a lot of the wheat character. On the palate, the sweetness continues, with a light brown sugar flavor intermingled with some berry and wheat toast. A breakfasty bourbon. Even keeled mouthfeel and a nice balance between high and low notes. A solid wheater.
