Templeton Rye 4 Year
Rye — Indiana (bottled in Iowa), USA
Reviewed March 30, 2015 (edited April 24, 2018)Nice, mellow rye with not much bite. I detect sweet vanilla and licorice on the palate, yet I find it lacking on the finish. Very full bodied corn grain. I'd recommend for those who want to enjoy a nice bourbon that doesn't sting. To be noted: I've come to learn that this bourbon is artificially flavored the American way. Be wary if you're a purist! -
Teeling Small Batch Irish Whiskey
Blended — Ireland
Reviewed March 28, 2015 (edited December 8, 2016)[Re-review 12-07-1986] - Revisited on my birthday. My first taste must have been from a bad batch because it was awful. This time however I get a classic Irish palate with a little extra spice on the back. Not outstanding, but drinkable. -
Larceny Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 27, 2015 (edited March 7, 2018)[11-04-2016] Giving this another go, it's much better than I remember. Predominantly I get brown sugar, toasted wood, vanilla, and caramel. Nice spice finish, super smooth, and a subtly sweet woody nose. I do believe I shall make this a home staple, considering the price. -
I really do enjoy Makers for its approachable nature. When the bar lacks the magnets to my wallet, I would choose this. As a wheated bourbon it is light and thin with caramel and vanilla brandishing the palate. The finish is light and swift. Bottles of this are reasonably priced. This is a great place to start until you're ready to step up to the sharper and more complex bourbons! Nothing wrong with liking something simple!
