Balanced, refined, and tasty. By no means a peat monster (I love peat monsters). Pear up front. Smoky little kiss at the end. Very, very good — bordering on excellent — but there are better values to be found. Buy it if you have the budget.

Likely the best “budget” bourbon in the world. She can easily best many bourbons costing much more. The Special Reserve is a sophisticated and sensible lady.

Look down your nose at this and you’ll miss a pretty damn decent whiskey. Drizzle it on a Twinkie and serve as dessert. Horrify and subsequently amaze your snooty friends. Solid, simple, a little sweet, with the slightest sting to confirm the 50% ABV. Great value.

This bourbon will melt your face and steal your soul. Four stars.

This is a sleeper whiskey that doesn’t disappoint. About half the price of Balcones Brimstone, and I may actually like Stolen a bit more (which is no slight to Brimstone, a great whiskey in its own right). Wonderfully rich vanilla nose. Refined smoke comes through on the palette. Someone described this as S’mores around a campfire, which is spot on. A fun way to cap off an evening. The 11 years in the barrel were time well spent. Outstanding value and a unique sipper. Give it a try.
