Hochstadter's Slow & Low Rock & Rye (84 Proof)
Rye — (BOTTLED IN) Scobeyville, New Jersey, USA
Reviewed December 17, 2017I'm going to do another tasting review of this, but it is like an old fashioned in a bottle. Initial taste is sweet and the nose is full of citrus, honey, and some floral notes. A bit of water or an ice cube curbs some of the sweetness and made it more enjoyable for my personal taste. -
Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 30, 2017 (edited October 25, 2024)A good, inexpensive single barrel, but not very memorable. I'm still learning to decipher whiskeys and provide decent notes, and the taste of this one fades quicker than I would like. Neat it has some spice and citrus to it, and adding a few drops of water opened it up a bit and made it lighter to the tongue. It has a nice, dark copper tone color, and the nose adds to the citrus that I tasted. Maybe a little bit of pepper and charred oak as well. I expected more from a single barrel rye, especially compared to the Jim Bean single barrel rye that I've tried and my staple rye, Bulleit rye. -
George Dickel No. 12
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed July 26, 2017 (edited March 10, 2018)Nose is sweet with hints of vanilla. Maybe a little bit of citrus at the end. Taste is initially strong but smooth going down. A pleasing bite. A little smokey when sipped neat. A splash of water calms the smoke and intensifies the sweetness in taste. Adds some smoothness. Pleasant. -
Big House Straight Bourbon 6 Year
Bourbon — Indiana (bottled in Kentucky), USA

Bulleit Rye
Rye — Indiana (bottled in Kentucky), USA
Reviewed December 11, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Nose is sweet and smooth. Hints of citrus in the aroma. Taste pleasantly engulfs the tongue. Sweeter than I expected for a rye. Smooth going down when neat. Has some fruity flavors that I cannot pin down. Solid rye for a manhattan. -
Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Rye

Whistlepig 10 Year Small Batch Rye
Rye — (bottled in) Vermont, Canada
Reviewed May 28, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Aroma has notes of honey and vanilla. Stein taste in the outside of the tongue. Warm but sweet, warm but not strong in the chest. A little bit of ice/water opens it up. Warmer and sweeter. Maybe too much vanilla for me. -
Smooth Ambler Old Scout Bourbon 7 Year
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed December 10, 2015 (edited August 1, 2016)Strong nose with honey and some citrus. Maybe a little vanilla as well. A sweeter aroma. Pleasant on the nose. Neat it hits the tip of the tongue and lingers on the sides as well. Warming. No burn going down. Flavor seems to fade faster than I would like. Solid taste but not extremely memorable. Some of that sweetness hits the room of the mouth. Flavor intensifies over ice. My preferred way to drink this particular bourbon.
