Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 22, 2019 (edited February 1, 2020)Nose: spicy, sweet, and smoky. Burns slightly if not taken slowly. Candy apple describes it best. Taste: the initial and lingering burn overpowers a lot of its taste. Under the burn I notice sweet and cinnamon notes. Almost no oil. Overall, not the most pleasant thing to drink. Small sips are recommended. There really seems to be a great flavor here, it’s just masked by the burn and characteristics of a bad cheap whisky. -
Nose: a lot of vanilla. Some notes of fruit (possibly orange peal, but also notice a crisp apple to it). Some hints of honey. Taste: slightly abrasive to start and for the finish (could be from the minor smokiness). Let’s you know it’s alcohol, but not in a negative way at all. Very sweet again. Floral and vanilla bean. Overall a complex flavor that keeps you guessing what just touched your tongue.36.0 USD per Bottle

Nose: sweet with floral notes. Hints of chocolate and fruit. Taste: surprising burn that comes on immediately. Sweet and full with hits on chocolate and fruit. Slightly oily, but does not coat the mouth. Overall, great, but a bit expensive for the quality. Good mantel bottle for sharing “the good stuff”

Smell notes: smoke. Not quite like a campfire, but closer to a gas type fire like from a grill. Let this one sit for at least 3 minutes before enjoying. Taste notes: watery mouth feel. Almost cool, but does begin to leave a subtle warmth after swallowing. Mostly a smokey and tart flavor, but it’s major thing going for it is how smooth it is. Goes down like water, but overall flavor is not complex and needs more tasting to come closer to identifying the subtler tastes.

Smell notes: hard to put down the undertones. Close to chocolate, but more likely a caramel. More significant traces of burnet wood and ash. Taste notes: oily mouth feel, with a strong burn that tingles anything it touches. Leaves a warm mess that dissipates with the tingles. Notes of smoke and caramel. Overall, hard to pin down other tastes. Mostly masked by the burn and smokiness. I do really like this one because of the burn and how warm it leaves. Good during winter.25.0 USD per Bottle

Smell notes: light with small hints of citrus. Too deep of a smell to get more out of it tends to just burn. Taste notes: thick consistency with watery mouth feel. Overly sweet with strong notes of vanilla. The char from the barrel is noticeable after swallowing. Light burn that is nice in comparison to crown royal deluxe. Overall, it’s okay. Too sweet, but the burn is subtle and pleasant. The char is also some of the best I have had.

Crown Royal Deluxe
Canadian — Manitoba, Canada
Reviewed December 26, 2018 (edited September 10, 2019)Smell notes: strong notes of vanilla with hints of maple. Subtle, but pleasant sent overall. Taste notes: very soft mouth feel with a light burn that increases slowly after swallowing. Watery consistency. Tastes of vanilla and maple. Barely any hints of alcohol, but does pick up in strength after swallowing. Overall, surprised by how smooth this is and how the sweetness doesn’t overpower the taste. -
Smell notes: very strong smell that does not dissipate even after letting settle. Notes of vanilla, citrus, and floral. Tasting notes: strong burn that begins and continues while it is held in the mouth. Leaves with a slow burn that feels oily. Do not breathe in through the mouth after swallowing as it moves the burn to the throat. Strong tastes of vanilla and small hints of butterscotch.

Smelling notes: hints of tropical/ floral. Slight sweet smell that is not overpowering. Alcohol smell dissipates well if it is left to sit. Tasting notes: watery and thin. Coats the mouth, but is not oily. Spicy and sweet that lingers, but all flavor fades quickly. Overall, it’s not offensive, but nothing special. Batch #: 21607
