Highland Park 18 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed October 17, 2014 (edited November 8, 2014)Yea... just yea. They know what they are doing here. Highland Park 12 is good, I've had the 15 and it's pretty nice as well. This is a special whisky. The older the HP's get the better they are - that's not always true of some distilleries but for some reason HP's really shine in older age. Worth having on hand at all times. If you're ever lucky enough to get some 25 year old HP... that's a cracking dram - just fantastic, this is close to that. -
Nothing distinctive here. It's decent and passable if you're in a pinch. I think that Glenlivet really starts to shine once it's aged at 15+ years. Some of their older expressions and the 'Nadurra' line are really interesting and well crafted. This is meant for the masses which isn't a bad thing - but if you're into interesting stuff, this isn't the dram for you.

Blanton's Original Single Barrel
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 17, 2014 (edited November 8, 2014)Not my favorite Bourbon, I would say that if you're a Scotch or Irish Whiskey drinker this Bourbon is a bit 'rowdy'. It's a lot to handle on the nose and palate. Finish is long and distinctive. I find it to be a little bit overbearing but can understand how a Bourbon lover would really be into this. A lot going on! -
Not a bad Smokey Blend. Not always easy to find in the States... but if you're looking for something easy to drink but still peaty - this is nice. It's not overly complicated, it's not going to blow your socks off - but it's cheap and worth a try. I prefer Black Bottle when it comes to cheaper smokey blends - but this ain't bad!

Kilchoman knows what they are doing. This is a great young malt made in the traditional Islay style. This is a very young whisky that punches up and has the flavor profile and nose of a whisky at least 3 times it's average age. It's spectacular. Also pricewise you aren't going to do better than this for a Kilchoman. Some of the early releases are approaching around 1k and a lot of their other releases are over 100USD. Exciting to see such great whisky coming from Islay's youngest producing distillery.

Johnnie Walker Green Label 15 Year
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed October 3, 2014 (edited January 4, 2015)This is my favorite of all the Johnnie Walkers. Really an impressive vatted malt/blended malt. This is an example of master blending personified. PLEASE don't put ice in this... don't ruin it. The balance of the malts is perfect. I think one of the all-time underrated malt blends. Will miss it when it's all gone. -
Balblair 2000 1st Release
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed October 3, 2014 (edited July 30, 2017)This is a decent Highland Malt at a reasonable price. Nothing spectacular here but non chill-filtered and not colored at all. Think the older Balblairs are quite good. This expression feels a little underdeveloped but worth a try. Not a very common malt in the states so if you see it and are interested I would pick one up. Easy to drink and not very complicated - so a good malt for someone who is just getting started but wants to step away from the traditional lowland or speyside malts.
