This whisky is a real delight, a real gem, after being disappointed by Kavalan Classic, this was a real surprise. Oily, sweet, spicy pepper and cinnamon, fruity, warm cocoa and caramel and finally a flamboyant toasty Port finish! I adore this, a real generous feast! I tried it thanks to Stephanie Moreno's review! Thanks Stephanie!!

Kavalan Classic Single Malt
Single Malt — Taiwan
Reviewed October 27, 2016 (edited November 2, 2016)I didn't enjoy it, I had waited a year to try this, but it was spicy, overly dry, herby and a miserably short finish. The sweet oiliness from the heat and the coast of the distillery and the sherry cask doesn't mix with the dry, lemony spice from the bourbon and new American oak cask just doesn't work for me. Then I found the amazing Kavalan Port Cask and I finally understood why Kavalan is so popular. -
Rittenhouse Rye Bottled in Bond
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 27, 2016 (edited August 7, 2019)Getting rye whiskey is hard to do in my part of France and when you can find it, it's twice as expensive, but I am so grateful to have been given this, it's one of my favourites!! Lemony flavours, orange peel, lots of nuts (chestnut, walnut, praline, cocoa, coconut) creamy caramel, splendid medicinal notes, ginger (and other flavours I'd associate with sushi), toasty flavours, sweet spicy pepper... that's just some of the flavours I can actually remember. As for the texture, it's so luxuriant and oily! It's a shame that some awful pagans have given this holy whisky a bad review or defile it by using it in cocktails, may the Lord have mercy upon your souls. -
Glenmorangie The Original 10 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed October 27, 2016 (edited December 3, 2016)Nice, but boring, it lacks the liveliness that Old Pulteney 12 Year has to offer and the subtlety, elegance that Dalwhinnie 15 Year has to give and the generous smoothness that Penderyn Legend so generously gives. So look into the first two for a proper Highland malt and look into the last one for something just as smooth but better. -
Compass Box Oak Cross
Blended Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed October 27, 2016 (edited April 2, 2017)This is a great whisky, but I prefer the Great King Street Artist's Blend: Firstly, the blend of oaks isn't quite right, the French oak is very creamy, but overpowered by the American oak's spice; in French whisky, the French oak takes centre stage and in Great King Street, the sherry cask and the single grain leaves the French oak room to breath and express itself (and the sherry spice subtly layers those spicy notes). I also miss what Girvan had to offer in Great King Street Artist's Blend, somehow the rawness of the single grain adds something important to the mix. -
Jura Superstition
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed October 27, 2016 (edited November 9, 2016)Oh god... It's like a mad scientist tried to add a bad peated whisky and a really dull highland malt together and this is the disfigured monster that was left in the aftermath.
