Springbank 10 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed November 2, 2016 (edited August 12, 2017)One of those rich whiskys that impresses me, but that isn't my style, it has a rich and subtle offering of fruits and peat, an amazingly precise myriad of flavours. Maybe it's the spice that put me off, but even if I don't like it, I really do want to dry the Longrow whisky by the same distillery. -
Compass Box Great King St Glasgow Blend
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed November 2, 2016 (edited May 3, 2018)As amazing as the Artist's Blend, with a spicy oily lemon start, giving way to a taste of nuts, up to a strong taste of peat that opens it's way to caramalised sweertness, some roasted nuts and a touch of apple that slowly, delicately turns sweet and sour and a little dry. -
Oh no!! Go away!! Too young, way too young, too sweet, overly bitter, too spicy and what is this peat doing in the middle of this ugly mess? And the finish is dismally short. I'm getting tired of some of these expensive, but awful no-age statement whiskys. Talisker 10 Year is hard to find in France, but I want to get my hands on it, hopefully that will be a lot better.

The words "Smooth" and "Mild"pop up again and again here... I was so excited to try this whisky... But there is barely any flavour to it, I feel more or less the same way about this as with The Irishman: I had loads of people go on and on about how this whisky was perfect when I finally try something that is just... so small. I'll stick to RedBreast and Teeling Small Batch.

It isn't the first time where I have found an Irish whisky that I heard hyped up in all the cavistes "You'll like this" "You must try this" "It's amazing" and then I try it... and I am greeted with a faint, quiet, discreet flavour. I expect a vibrant orchestra and instead I hear an old man shouting quietly through a cave. Maybe this whisky is nice... But I just can't taste it (and no I don't smoke and I have a very good palate).
