Glenfiddich 14 Year Bourbon Barrel Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 21, 2017 (edited July 20, 2017)It seems Glenfiddich spent some time in the Bourbon country, either that or this is Glenfiddich's cousin from the states visiting the Speyside region. On the nose you immediately get the soft bourbon sweetness you'd expect. Sweet corn undertones and hints of dried mango and fruits. Body is more like a bourbon than a Speyside, that is, more viscous than smooth. Finish starts off subtle then expands at the very end for a very non spey finish. If you're a fan of Glenfiddich and bourbons, this is an interesting single malt to try. It's a niche, but it accomplished what it set out to do. -
Loud nose, but settles for a subtle reminder of your mother's fruit dish with apples and bananas that are reaching their best by date in the sun. Body is thin and closely related to the intro Bushmills. You can make out a little bit of the bourbon character from the aging. Nothing too exciting but the finish is easy and fresh, making for an easier drinker. A decent and original Irish, not as outstanding as the Black Bush but for the price point ($23 a bottle), it can stand on its own as an intermediate Irish expression.
