Nose: Sweet ethanol fruity Taste : vanilla, acetone quickly turning quickly to almond extract No burn. I have blinded this bottle several times against a variety of bottles of similar proof. This bottle always scores in the bottom third. I don’t know if it’s the flavor profile with the higher rye content but it just doesn’t hit the correct notes for me. This bottle lacks the discernible depth that I would expect from a 10 yr. I can drink it and it doesn’t taste bad, I just won’t buy it again.

Castle & Key Small Batch Bourbon 2022 (Batch 1)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 15, 2022 (edited July 22, 2022)Nice nose beginning with hints of creamy vanilla and cinnamon. Palate is sweet hay (alfalfa) with citrus. Little heat and oily finish. This is nice. It is unique. There is no oak. I think additional aging would make this an absolute hit. I am impressed by this initial batch. -
Kirkland 7 Year Small Batch Tennessee Bourbon
Bourbon — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed January 15, 2022 (edited August 30, 2022)This is classic Dickel and it hits all the good the classic Dickel notes. This is my flavor profile. In my opinion this drinks older than the 7 yr age statement. It has nice minerality. But in my snobbiness, if I want Dickel neat, I’ll stick with the 15 year -
Subtle vanilla and cinnamon on the nose with no alcohol burn. Medium thin mouth feel with a Smokey leather/oak taste. Again subtle and smooth with no burn. Finish is definitely lacking. Probably would have had more of a flavor profile if it was less diluted. Nothing offensive and would be an excellent bottle for a newer bourbon drinker. (Which explains why it is being sold exclusively at the distillery experience)

I’m disappointed and I bought this bottle based upon the marketing hype. I’m saying this not because of the proof point (clearly this is basil Hayden product so I don’t get people who buy this and are critical of the low proof). This bottle is just not my ideal flavor profile. I don’t know if it is the flavor of the brown rice from the mash bill that I catch on the finish. It’s not bad, just not my thing. My wife thought it was a nice sipper if you want something lighter with some fruity undertones.

Ezra Brooks 99 Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 11, 2021 (edited September 17, 2021)So this is better than the standard Ezra Books you find on the bottom shelf but firmly should be classified as a mixer that you could sip in a pinch (as opposed to a dram that you look forward to after a long day of work). Nose is caramel with the smell of alcohol (showing it’s lack of age). Taste is medium in heat with a sweet nuttiness (not beam nuttiness). But the finish has too much young bourbon alcohol heat. This bourbon lacks complexity but has a pleasing flavor profile. My rating is a 3 because of the good price point and that it makes a great mixer. -
Rabbit Hole Cavehill Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed August 11, 2021 (edited September 23, 2021)Nose is light. Taste and finish merge quickly together. I pick up a smokiness that blends with the oak. If this were a rye I would have described it as a rye funk without the pepper. It’s not bad but just not my ideal flavor profile. The best part of this bourbon is the finish. The flavor slowly dissipates with no heat. I won’t criticize you if you like this bottle as it is smooth (as my mother really does), but I don’t. I feel like the oak takes the lead oar and the complexity is lacking. -
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch B521

1792 Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 10, 2021 (edited September 17, 2021)The nose greets you with orange peel and vanilla. Medium-thin mouth feel with minimal burn. Very smooth. The finish is really nice. More vanilla and a hint a sweet banana. This is a solid bib. Excellent price point. -
Jack Daniel's Master Distiller Series No. 5
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed July 3, 2021I saw this in the clearance area at the liquor store near my parents for $19.95. I figured it could not be any worse than traditional Jack so what the heck. I can say that I was not disappointed. I found it less sweet and caramelly than traditional Jack. Very smooth with a good mouth feel without any burn or astringent taste. This is by no means a complex Tennessee whiskey. Unlike normal Jack, I could drink this neat. (I probably won’t unless in a pinch). This does hold up in a mix drink. I’m happy with purchase. It’s a good value at this price point.
