This is lovely. Nose: Brown sugar, strawberry jam, raisins, baking spices, vanilla and varnished wood. Palate: Somewhat rich and oily, semisweet, with notes of raisins, vanilla, caramel, chocolate, baking spices, barley, malt, nuts and citrus. Finish: Medium length and warming with light nutty, spicy, chocolaty notes.

Templeton Rye Barrel Strength (2022 Edition)
Rye — (bottled in) Iowa, USA
Reviewed May 14, 2023 (edited July 4, 2023)Bottle kill. This has truely blossomed as i moved through the bottle (with a little help from my friends). It is still savory and spicy, but in the best way with some added sweetness. The notes of rye grass, eucalyptus, dill, which are really not my favorite anyway, are still there but have have been muted. The baking baking spices, vanilla, caramel and sugar cookies are brought to the fore. The ethanol and heat are gone, for the most part. Still finishes long with savory and spice plus some vanilla and caramel. Makes a great old fashioned. I like this way more than I first did when first opened.59.99 USD per Bottle -
Big Peat Platinum Edition 26 Year
Blended Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed May 12, 2023 (edited June 1, 2024)Neck pour. Neck pour is good, but not fantastic. Very lemony and salty with some earthy peat. Semisweet, balanced and almost creamy. Lasting finish. Tastes a lot like the big Pete Christmas edition that I had, although it is more refined. Not sure it’s worth the $120 I paid. Right now. I’d rate it behind the Laphroaig Quarter Cask, which is 1/2 the discount price of this bottle. Time open could change my mind though.120.0 USD per Bottle -
Timorous Beastie 21 Year Sherry Edition
Blended Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed May 5, 2023 (edited May 31, 2023)This review is for the 24 year. I like it, but its really hard to put notes on paper. This needs to rest a good 1/2 hour in the glass before drinking. It’s well balanced with dried fruits, nuts, baking spices, malt and a lasting finish. I think I will miss this when its gone. Bottle kill. This never really improved. Still good and enjoyable, but not exceptional. Empty glass is amazing, probably better than all other components. Dropped 1/4 point.109.99 USD per Bottle -
One Eight Distilling Untitled Whiskey No. 13
Other Whiskey — USA
Reviewed April 20, 2023 (edited April 22, 2023)This is a review of Untitled Whiskey No. 12. (11 Year Old Wheated Bourbon Finished in Cocoa Nib Barrels) I’m cuckoo for cocoa puffs! Wow! Desert in a glass. Cocoa powder and baking spices. What more do you need? Well if you do need more, it’s also got a wee bit of fruit, caramel, toffe and a wonderful smoldering finish. Actually a fantastic whiskey.49.99 USD per Bottle -
Open several months. About a quarter bottle remaining. Nose has both overripe and underripe bananas, celery, carmel , vanilla, molasses, honey, some unusual spices that I can’t decipher, and some weird funkiness, not quite like the Jamaican rums. It’s not super appealing, yet very interesting, and i find myself returning to it like a dog to a stinky sock. On the palate it’s semisweet and somewhat viscous with brown sugar, caramel, vanilla, baking spices, bananas and other light tropical fruits, plus those unusual spices notes and hints of celery. Finish is medium length with smoldering spices and a little bit of that weird funkiness.

Rye — (bottled in) Iowa, USA
Reviewed April 14, 2023 (edited May 14, 2023)This is savory and spicy with notes of rye grass, eucalyptus, dill, baking spices, vanilla, black pepper and sugar cookies. But it also has too much ethanol and heat for my taste. Finishes long with more savory and spice. I feel like I should like this more than I do. 59.99 USD per BottleBevMo! -
Plantation Peru 2010 Single Cask (Pineau de Charentes Cask Maturation)
Aged Rum — Peru
Reviewed April 5, 2023 (edited April 8, 2023)Well, this is subtle. Lots of good notes if you dig deep. Molasses, tropical fruits and baking spices. Enjoyable for sure, but, it does not wow me. Just average. -
Jose Cuervo Tradicional Cristalino
Tequila Reposado — Tequila Valley, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed April 2, 2023 (edited April 8, 2023)Freshly opened bottle. First note that hits my nose is melted model airplane, followed by light sweet agave and vanilla. The melted plastic note dissipates over time. Its a little slick on the palate, semisweet, a little spicy with light notes of agave and vanilla plus a hint of something burnt, not sure what. Finish is on the short side, not unpleasant at all, a little tingle on the tongue and slightly sweet and spicy.27.99 USD per BottleCostco Wholesale
