Ilegal joven is one of those mezcals that I would consider giving someone who is just trying to get into mezcal. It's not very complex, pretty standard stuff but for the most part gets the job done and works pretty well in cocktails. The nose is pretty musty and smokey. The palate is a bit one note, heavy on the smoke with a little bit of sweetness. It's very thin and not very complex. The finish is a bit metallic with some heat and fades pretty quickly. All in all it's not bad, but it's too boring to really be considered something you would go for neat. In cocktails though, it does serve a purpose. I will say, I tried this in a clay copita, as well as in a glass and it was better in the clay copita. It helped to smooth out the finish and I got less of the metallic industrial taste. I would say if you were only drinking this neat, it's a 2/2.25, but as a cocktail ingredient you can boost it up to the 2.5.40.0 USD per Bottle

My wife likes to make alcoholic root beer floats so while I typically get irish cream liqueur, I saw this and figured I would give this a try. The nose features chocolate and ethanol, not too overpowering but you can tell it's there. The palate is sweet and creamy, with butterscotch, vanilla and cinnamon notes. The finish is smooth and as to be expected leaves no burn. I think I prefer the Five Farms over this but it's still a very good cream liqueur. In an alcoholic root beer float it was amazing, so while I rated this a touch lower than the five farms, both are great and superior to Baileys.25.0 USD per Bottle

Five Farms Irish Cream Liqueur
Dairy/Egg Liqueurs — Ireland
Reviewed December 13, 2022 (edited April 30, 2023)I've only had a couple irish cream liqueurs, but this one is far and away the best. I dont see a reason to have Baileys when this is an alternative. The nose features chocolate and grain. The palate is where this shines. Its silky and creamy, with notes of caramel, butterscotch and spice. The finish is smooth, with no burn and more chocolate notes. I'm guessing there is another irish cream liqueur out there that's better but this has to be near the top. Skip the Baileys and go for this instead, I'm sure you wont regret it.28.0 USD per Bottle -
I believe I am in the minority here, but I'm not a big fan of this. Maybe I got a bad batch but this seems very disjointed. The nose is minty, with some rhubarb. I also get something that I can only describe as moldy. That may just be me though. The palate is heavy on smoke, almost like burnt rhubarb with a good bit of bitterness. The finish is pretty short with a bit of burn. I really didnt enjoy this neat but surprisingly I do like this in cocktails. I would give this a 2/2.25 neat but its unique enough in cocktails (only where it accents and is not the main player) that I'm going to bump it up to a 2.75. I have a feeling though it may just be me that doesnt really like it neat.24.0 USD per Bottle

In the world of amaro, I dont often think of CioCiaro, but it's very well made and reasonably priced. On the nose I get orange peel and tobacco. The palate is actually quite herbal and pretty sweet. The bitter component is lower than most amaro, with some nice cola notes. The finish has no burn and some liquorice. For the cost I think this is a solid value amaro. It's not incredibly complex, but it's well made and easy to drink. I'm surprised it's not called for more often in cocktails. I would probably go with a 3.25 neat, but for the value I will bump it up to a 3.5.25.0 USD per Bottle

Chartreuse Green Liqueur
Herbal/Spice Liqueurs — France
Reviewed October 7, 2022 (edited November 19, 2022)Without a doubt one of the best liqueurs in the world. The complexity of green chartreuse is vastly superior to any other liqueur. The nose is very herbal and heavy on the menthol, with citrus and spices. The palate is very rich, floral, somewhat bitter, with stone fruits and some more mint flavors. The finish is quite long with only the slightest bit of burn. There isnt much else to say about this, its amazing. It may be expensive for a liqueur, but it's more than worth it.55.0 USD per Bottle -
Chartreuse Yellow Liqueur
Herbal/Spice Liqueurs — France
Reviewed October 7, 2022 (edited January 21, 2023)I think the yellow chartreuse is a bit under appreciated. Its hard not to be when it's often compared to the green version. The nose is herbal with some nice saffron notes. The palate is sweet, a touch thin and features some spice and orange peel. The finish is pretty long with no burn. The problem with the yellow is that it feels thin when compared to the green. It's still very good though and works great in cocktails.50.0 USD per Bottle -
El Tesoro Añejo Tequila
Tequila Añejo — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed October 7, 2022 (edited January 2, 2023)El Tesoro Anejo is one of the better anejo tequilas out there. I feel like too many anejos taste like whiskey and this is definitely not the case here. The nose ensures you that this is in fact tequila with some nice cooked agave notes and oak. The oak fades on the palate and some sweetness, vanilla and earthy notes take over. You still predominantly taste the agave. The finish has decent length and almost no burn. I haven't had an El Tesoro tequila that wasnt good and that continues with this bottle. I still favor the reposado and blance over this but you cant go wrong either way.60.0 USD per Bottle -
Hine Rare VSOP is a more premium offering from Hine, but I dont think it's worth nearly twice as much as the plain old Hine H. I would go as far as to say the Hine H is nearly its equal neat. On the nose I get stone fruit, which continues on the palate, along with some vanilla, spice and orange peel. The finish has decent length with some oak and a bit of burn. I was hoping for a more elegant sipping cognac but it feels only like a slight upgrade over the Hine H. It's not bad and I may be being a bit too harsh but I had much higher expectations for the price.60.0 USD per Bottle

Tito's is a well made vodka, nothing great about it but nothing off-putting. As a mixer, it works great but less so neat. The palate is clean with some lemon peel. The palate is a bit oily and sweet with a bit of heat. The finish is short and has a bit more burn then I was expecting. I know many people swear by Titos but I dont find anything that special with it. I will save $5 and pick up Absolut over this. Again, it's not bad, its just nothing special and that's why I'm going with a pretty average score.20.0 USD per Bottle
