Hot damn this is GOOD. Have you ever had a whisky so delicious you just kept staring at your dram with both bewilderment and admiration? Well THAT. JUST. HAPPENED! The nose is incredibly complex, with a touch of smoke, some toffee, caramel, and heaven. The palate has notes of subtle cinnamon , cane sugar and wood (not sure which casks were used here). The finish is quite long and balanced, with sweet sugar lingering for minutes on end. Definitely worth its hard find. Enjoy!

Balblair 2003 1st Release
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 8, 2017 (edited August 13, 2017)It's surprisingly complex for a young whisky, and its flavour profile is sufficiently well-balanced - what begins as fruity somehow becomes quite floral at the finish. The orange zest and vanilla become ______ (lilac?), so that from beginning to end it's all satisfying. Not bad. -
Knockando 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed February 8, 2017 (edited November 14, 2022)This is a wonderful whisky, and the sherry cask is pleasantly prominent if that's your thing. Lemons, peaches and slightly toasted barley are evident on the nose, while the palate is medium-bodied with touches of chocolate and nutmeg. The finish is a little short yet pleasant - I really think this scotch would have benefited from a higher ABV. Worth the try! -
Kilchoman Machir Bay (2014 Edition)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 7, 2017 (edited August 13, 2017)I hate, hate, HATE being the contrarian here, but this release is plain terrible. I know, I'm the lone negative voice so I must be wrong. Be that as it may, and in light of the fact that preference is a very personal matter, let me reiterate just how awful this whisky is. Take the nose. Should Islay whisky smell of peat and SPOILED LEMONS? The fruit notes are so off-putting that I simply cannot appreciate the remaining qualities here. The palate and finish... Who the heck knows after that. And that's my two cents, which as we know can't help anyone buy a damn thing these days. -
Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 7, 2017 (edited January 12, 2018)Mindblown: that's the word that comes to mind with this bourbon. It's truly outstanding. Once you get past the typical vanilla and oak, there's a dimension of fruitiness that is just wonderfully inviting. Cherries, flowers, and caramel... Everything just fits and plays along well. The finish itself is long and makes you yearn for more. I love it! -
I think it's elitist of Distiller to award 82 points to something this consistent and balanced, but I can understand there's nothing outstanding or out of this world special about this bourbon. Still... Good stuff. From start to finish it's incredibly smooth, with notes of cinnamon (plenty), honey, vanilla, and especially oak. There's a reason why this whiskey is a staple at most bars, and you'll hardly go wrong for the price, particularly if you're looking for something sweet. Cheers!

Springbank 10 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed February 7, 2017 (edited November 30, 2019)Good whisky, and definitely a Springbank; everything you want and hope from this distillery is here. At first approach, your nose is instantly greeted by subtle peat - hell, you could trick your mind into thinking you're smelling the ocean, with brine and marsh meeting your nostrils. The palate is wonderful, and FRUITY! Lemon and honey compliment your mouth, and it's especially here that you know you're enjoying a Campbeltown whisky. The finish is the weaker aspect, and benefits from the addition of water, as the liquid is slightly anaesthesizing. Still, this is good stuff! -
Auchentoshan American Oak
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 5, 2017 (edited August 13, 2017)I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I was quite surprised. This is a very pleasant whisky, though incredibly fragile - I would not recommend adding water. The nose hits all the right notes , but not necessarily what you expect from American oak. Sure there's vanilla and the ever so faint touch of wood, but lemon and apple are also both present, making this fruity rather than floral. In these respects it could almost pass for a distant cousin of Jack Daniels. The palate is pleasant and quite smooth, though also flat and a little weak. The finish... It just isn't there. All in all a nice dram, especially for a novice. -
Wild Turkey Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 4, 2017 (edited May 16, 2017)Fair and smooth, with notes of (obviously) vanilla, sweet caramel and oak. The finish hardly has burn, and I must admit the addition of ice improves it. Is it a must-have? Hell I'm not even sure it's a should-have. But if you're stuck with limited choices, you'll be safe with this bourbon. -
Tullibardine 20 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 1, 2017 (edited August 13, 2017)Great stuff, and truly one of the better whiskies I've tasted - if you can't enjoy this, scotch might not be for you. The nose is incredibly complex; fruity, herbaceous, and a generous dose of caramel and vanilla. The palate is wonderful, with oak and salt - you almost feel like you're biting into a warm and baked butter cookie. The finish is long and lingers in your tongue for minutes on end. All in all quite wonderful and accomplished.
