Tastes

This review is for the Hart Brothers Benriach 15 first port pipe filled, from K&L. Nose: Very sweet, grapes, cognac, strong port. Body: thick, viscous, smooth Finish: very sweet, long finish. more grapes. I like this, although it's one dimensional. If I had tasted this blind, I could have been convinced it was actually port (albeit super high proof). Reminds me of the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, which is a better value.

Have really enjoyed this bottle. It has the Springbank nose of paint fumes, salted caramel, and white pepper. The body is creamy, with increased sweetness. Finish is long, with a nice spiciness. Would love to keep one of these in my cabinet.

I was really surprised to learn this wasn't a bourbon. The high abv, baking spices, caramel, and corn on the nose all pointed that way. With (a lot of) water, it starts to seem more like a spey with more apples, salted caramel. Very, very good. Would buy.

Nose is subtle--some salt, similar to Oban. Also some tartness like a sour mash beer. Body is thin, but the smoky peat really hits you on the finish and lingers for a while. An ok scotch, but kind of disjointed.

Nose reminds me of a young ardbeg or lagavulin. Astringent, bananas, smoke. Body and finish reminds me of the ashy flavors of caol ila and the medicinal notes of ardbeg. A nice dram.

This was only $60 so I was a bit suspicious given the age statement, but bought it anyway. Disappointing. The nose has toffee and sweet pancake syrup notes along with signs of the harshness to come, like nail polish remover and Elmer's glue. Body has a medium viscosity but the harshness of the afterfinish intrudes quickly. Would not but again.

Lemon pepper poundcake, Elmer's glue, farmy, with a very creamy body. Spicy/tingly end to the mouthfeel due to the ABV, but not harsh. Long finish. Great value at $55. Will definitely buy another if they get them next year.

Nose: ash, coriander, plastic Palate: subtle--not a lot there Finish: ash really builds, and lasts a long time. Tastes like the morning after smoking a cigar Disappointed in this one. Probably my last favorite Ardbeg. The extra barrel char overpowers, and makes this very one dimensional.
