Angel's Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 14, 2021 (edited February 19, 2021)This is a nice, easy-drinking bourbon. It doesn't have the heavy corn or acetone taste that turns me off other bourbons. You get a little corn but also walnuts and honey. Port comes through in the taste, but it's extremely subtle compared to other port-finished whiskeys I've had. -
Balvenie DoubleWood 17 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 26, 2020 (edited March 3, 2021)Apples, caramel, taffy, and a little cinnamon on the nose. Body is creamy, and finish is nice and long. Would love to try this head to head with the 12. -
Kaiyō The Peated First Edition
Blended Malt — Japan
Reviewed December 25, 2020 (edited August 14, 2021)Salty, peaty, briney, Bacon, and bbq meats. All very balanced, though. Body is very buttery! So creamy it almost makes me think it's an Irish, but the nose says Islay. Finish is very nice, long and smooth with a bit of spice. This is one I definitely want a bottle of. -
Longmorn 16 Year (Discontinued)
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 25, 2020 (edited August 30, 2021)Apples, spicy cinnamon, pears. Spicy finish. Very nice. -
Glen Scotia 18 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed December 14, 2020 (edited November 18, 2021)Sweet pancake syrup, with a viscous, spicy body and looooong finish. This is a delicious, dangerously drinkable scotch! I didn't recognize it as Glen Scotia when I tried it blind--I think the extra time in cask lended it additional sweetness that covers up some of the funk I get in the 15. -
Oban 18 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 13, 2020 (edited February 11, 2022)Apples, honey, with a bit of funk I can't really identify. Very nice, but a lot of notes didn't jump out to me on this one. -
