Heaven Hill Bottled In Bond 7 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 26, 2022 (edited November 30, 2022)π Bananas, a little cherry, and a surprising amount of rye. Unimpressive TBH. π I wonder if this being the last sip from the bottle affected the taste π€ I don't love it as much as I thought I did. Sweet π for sure, but not as complex as I remembered. π π€ Less cherry than the palate. Almost a cheap Evan Williams funk π -
I'm always surprised by the ethanol I get on the nose of lower proof whiskeys and this one is no exception, but I still get caramel, oak, vanilla - traditional bourbon Palate: This is where this one shines. Just smooth aged bourbon. Anywhere under $40 is a steal. Finish: Not much new here. The char of the barrel comes through. Obviously not a young bourbon Overall: Honestly, this taste is bourbon to me. Anything else is bourbon with a little something else.

Nose: Sweet fresh sugar cane. Vanilla. Even more sugar. Palate: Really just the same smooth sweetness. Oily, coat your mouth with out drying it out goodness. Finish: Not side-by-side at the moment, seems to finish hotter than other Weller varieties (adjusted for proof). If there's a weak spot here, it's the finish. Overall: if you find it in the store for MSRP, snag it, but if you have to ask them to open the case to get it, there are better options for the $$

Proofy on the nose, but there's a lot of younger bourbon in here. The rye notes are obvious. Palate: grapes. A mix of red and white. A little bit of sawdust. Again, heavy on the rye, but tastes like it has some age to it. 30% 11 year old whiskey so that makes sense Finish: Same same. Older rye whiskey. A little bit of citrus. Lemon and orangethe L

Weller Antique 107 Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 16, 2022 (edited October 3, 2022)Just had Old Rip Van Winkle 10 yr which is also at 107 proof, so this will be a comparison: Nose: standard wheated bourbon. Maybe a little hotter on the nose that. RVW10 Palate: basically the same as the RVW. Exactly what I expected, TBH. Smooth, oaky, wheated bourbon, but a bit hotter just because of the younger whiskey in 107. Drier than RVW Finish: Sorry to be repetitive, but they are so close. I'd pay 20-30% more for the RVW, but if you get a chance at the 107 for a decent price, do it.the L -

Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year Bourbon (107 Proof)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 16, 2022 (edited November 1, 2022)Nose: Honestly just high corn mash bill bourbon. Vanilla, cinnamon, maybe caramel Palate: smooth bourbon, but honestly not any special notes. Drinks well below 107 proof. DO NOT add water or ice Finish: It's just Weller 107 with a couple extra years. Oakier and smoother, but not worth secondary for a full bottle I'm going 4.25 not because it isn't good, but because it's not worth the price you'll pay for it. -
Michter's 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon (2020 Release)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 4, 2022I know this one isn't super pricey, and maybe it's because the bar tender hyped this up, but it was kinda disappointing. Lame nose. Weird palate. And nothing to get excited about with the finishThe Bluegrass - Candelas -
Very sweet nose. Almost like rum. But I like it alot. Not too much ethanol. Palate and finish have some of the same rum notes, but I just had the rum aged Barrell, and this isn't nearly that rummy. Barrell is coconut. This one is peach. Interested to try the older versions, but this one is pretty great for the price.School House Kitchen and Libations
