π hotter than you'd expect for 94 proof. I get a little bit of burnt sugar and leather, but young age is obvious. π This is where this one shines. You could swish it around in your mouth all night and not feel the burn. Classic vanilla and leather notes, but much smoother than the nose. π A little bit of that heat shows back up here. Not as bad as the nose, but not as sweet as the palate. One new note on the finish...mango?

Old Forester 1910 Old Fine Whisky
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 13, 2022 (edited July 6, 2023)π a little spicier than I'd expect from a 93 proofer, but the sweet oak is very pronounced π This is where this one really shines. This competes with EC Toasted (sipping to compare now) which is one of the smoothest bourbons I've ever had. Just coats your mouth with sweet vanilla oaky goodness π Still better than MOST whiskies, but some of that spice from the nose comes back here -
Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 13, 2022 (edited November 18, 2022)π only 94 proof, so won't singe your nose hairs. Caramel, cinnamon, oak, good bourbon. π Just incredible. If you can still appreciate a lower proof whiskey, this is one of the smoothest drinking whiskeys I've ever had. π More of the same. Just smooth, sweet goodness. The extra oakiness really comes through here. -
π classic sweet wheated bourbon. Not blown away π Almost spicier than S.R... this is clearly a Weller, which, to me defines wheated bourbon, but not really worth what you'll pay for it on secondary. Dry π just like the nose. Boring and spicy So unimpressed for the $. I'd pay like $90 to add it to the collection. Maybe my hopes were just too high, but this didn't live up to the hype

Angel's Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 4, 2022 (edited October 8, 2022)π banana tree. Not banana. Not tree. Banana tree π and pear. She says pear. Maybe a little pine. π Classic sweet bourbon notes. I think the port wine barrels contribute to the sweetness, but not an overpowering wine note π A surprising amount of rye comes through here. Only the palate is surprisingly sweet. I'd pay $40-$50, but not sure MSRP -
Smoke Wagon Uncut Unfiltered Bourbon
Bourbon — Indiana (bottled in Nevada), USA
Reviewed September 30, 2022 (edited October 2, 2022)π new leather, vanilla, grapefruit, and cherry π More of the same, but pretty smooth for the proof π Spicy. I didn't feel the burn on the palate, but it really shows it's proof on the finish -
π spicier than expected for a 90 proofer. Classic rye notes. Obviously not bourbon. π Much more complex than the nose. There's a strange note that reminds me of something like glue or play-doh, but that's not it. It's actually quite interesting and I like it a lot. I remember getting something like this from Blade & Bow bourbon, but it was overpowering there. Here, it seems to compliment the rye. π It gets sweeter and sweeter. Finish almost gives some bourbon notes like caramel. Notes: I'll always prefer good bourbon, but this is a GREAT rye. Easily a sipper, but I've made some pretty phenomenal cocktails with this too. I generally try to use less expensive whiskey for cocktails, but this one was especially good in something like a Paper Plane or Manhattan.

Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Old Fashioned Sour Mash Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 26, 2022Idk why I can't find E. H. Taylor Small Batch on here, but that's what I'm tasting... π Churning butter poured over a bed of cinnamon sticks which had been infused with maple syrup and then poured over some thick pancakes with a cherry on top π Not as impressive as the nose, but there's still some cherry infused butter there. Maybe a bit of leather. Only 100 proof, but I've had 90 proof whiskeys that drink substantially hotter. π Wow. Just wow. One of the best finishes I've experienced. Crazy smooth, no burn, just the sweet notes from the nose with a little caramel oakiness thrown in there
