Barrell Whiskey Infinite Barrel Project (September 20, 2019 Bottling)
Blended American Whiskey — Blend, USA
Reviewed July 29, 2022Spicy, peppery, sweet notes of orange, citrus. Long finish, the ABV truly comes thru in the finish. A few drops of water opened up to oak and floral notes. Ironically, I am not getting nutty flavors that I normally get on others Barrell whiskeys. -
Two years after my initial taste of Zacapa XO... my opinion is the same. This is one of the best rum, the best value, and the best taste that I had the opportunity to taste. Now, this is not as heavy and complex as Appleton Estate 21, but still a great sipping rum, for one of those nights that you just want to chill and listen to your preferred music... Latin, Jazz, etc...

Ron Centenario 30 Edición Limitada
Aged Rum — Costa Rica
Reviewed July 23, 2022 (edited July 24, 2022)IMO, this is a great rum. Yes, it's a solera type, and it has a big 30 on the label. But the characteristics are very good, 40% ABV, smooth, and sweet, but it's not as complex as it could be. I get little mint notes with the sweetness and light tobacco on the back end of the palate. Some candy, like licorice and pineapple, closes the taste. The finish is short-lived.. what should we expect at 40% ABV. I prefer something like El Dorado 21 or Appleton Estate 21, which I think are more complex and deep than this one. Overall very good. -
The one that I tried was a store-picked, blend B25A, from 925liquours in MD. On the nose, this gives me notes of nuts, like almond dust, and pecan, with a little mint in the background, so lightly; also licorice... not sure that the Rye % is, but these are the notes that I normally get with rye. This bottle comes at 56.08%, so this is not super hot, but it's definitely a little warm. With a little ice, I think this will shine. I like the nutty flavors, which I get on other Barrell bourbon bottles.

This one surprised me, maybe because I was not expecting too much, but I like it more than the Very Old. Side by side, the rum notes give it a very mellow, sweet profile. At 45% ABV, I did not need to add water or ice. It went down very well, the finish is not intense, but it finishes well... not harsh, not bitter.

Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch B522
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed July 23, 2022 (edited October 20, 2022)Finally opened this bottle. Quick impressions are Sweet cinnamon, and spicy on the nose. On the palate, this was warm, like hot cinnamon sirup, with some nutty notes with it. With a 61.9% ABV, water was my friend. For me, the water brought forward the vanilla, sugar, and oak notes that I was expecting to get from the start. The temperature is cooler and the finish is long, sweet vanilla. Still, I was expecting a little more sweetness, thus the 3.75 score. -
Jefferson's Reserve Single Barrel
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 23, 2022 (edited July 24, 2022)The bottle that I am trying was store picked (by Coast Guard Exchange). This nose is soft with notes of nuts, like almonds. There's a little sweetness, but it was hard for me to pick it up. On the palate, the nutty flavors come through a little stronger, but not overwhelming. The finish is soft, light, and somewhat short. I don't mind this, but it doesn't wow me. I do have to say that the nutty flavor is a little surprise. -
Clyde May's 11 Year Cask Strength Alabama-Style Whiskey
Flavored Whiskey — USA
Reviewed July 23, 2022 (edited July 24, 2022)Neat, this is a warm drink. I was looking for traditional bourbon notes, but this is Alabama Whiskey. So the notes were more fruity, but not like a scotch (Speyside), I meant there were some fruity notes, instead of vanilla, sugar notes. The finish is long, with a medicinal touch at the end. Water is your friend with this one. A few drops of water gave me some sweet cinnamon on the nose, which was very pleasant. Next time, I will use an ice cube and see how it develops. -
This is warm. The nose shows a little oaky and sweet like berries, but the palate shows it’s ABV and, what I call traditional Balcones notes. There’s a funk on the palate that I had tasted in other Balcones whiskey releases. The oak is intense, but I don’t get much sweetness. This is a neck pour, so I’ll let it rest and come back in a few months.
