Jefferson's Reserve Single Barrel
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 23, 2022 (edited July 24, 2022)The bottle that I am trying was store picked (by Coast Guard Exchange). This nose is soft with notes of nuts, like almonds. There's a little sweetness, but it was hard for me to pick it up. On the palate, the nutty flavors come through a little stronger, but not overwhelming. The finish is soft, light, and somewhat short. I don't mind this, but it doesn't wow me. I do have to say that the nutty flavor is a little surprise. -
Clyde May's 11 Year Cask Strength Alabama-Style Whiskey
Flavored Whiskey — USA
Reviewed July 23, 2022 (edited July 24, 2022)Neat, this is a warm drink. I was looking for traditional bourbon notes, but this is Alabama Whiskey. So the notes were more fruity, but not like a scotch (Speyside), I meant there were some fruity notes, instead of vanilla, sugar notes. The finish is long, with a medicinal touch at the end. Water is your friend with this one. A few drops of water gave me some sweet cinnamon on the nose, which was very pleasant. Next time, I will use an ice cube and see how it develops. -
This is warm. The nose shows a little oaky and sweet like berries, but the palate shows it’s ABV and, what I call traditional Balcones notes. There’s a funk on the palate that I had tasted in other Balcones whiskey releases. The oak is intense, but I don’t get much sweetness. This is a neck pour, so I’ll let it rest and come back in a few months.

Equiano Rum Limited Batch 01
Aged Rum — Multiple Countries
Reviewed July 19, 2022 (edited July 20, 2022)I can definitely get those foursquare notes, but there’s something else. Something sweet, spicy, and warm, for a 43% ABV. There’s something artificial in the initial taste, but it finishes with sweet notes like smarties (light). -
Jack Daniel's Bonded Tennessee Whiskey
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed July 8, 2022 (edited July 9, 2022)On the side of the bottle states, caramel, oak and spice… this notes are right there n target. Definitely very different than the old No. 7. For the price around $33, is acceptable. -
KILKERRAN HEAVILY PEATED BATCH #4
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed July 5, 2022 (edited July 6, 2022)Wow... what a FUNK! From the first nose, the funk was strong with this one. I had other "heavily peated" scotches, like Port Charllote Heavy Peated and Compass Box Peat Monster, but this one was at another level, unfortunately, not in my wheelhouse. There's definitely briny taste, salty, but not like Talisker, like a little too much. In summary, this is not in my wheelhouse, so I am glad that it was a sample that I was able to get and not a full bottle. -
I got a small sample of this whisky; wow, this has a punch. At first, the peat was very intense, but after a few minutes, it let other aromas like citrus and a little honey/sweet come out. Matured in refill American oak, I was expecting a little sweetness, but it was not there. Instead, I found a little tart and harshness in the finish... For me is one of those whiskies that I have to be in a certain mood to enjoy it. In comparison, I can have a dram of Lagavulin 16 anytime.

Fable & Folly 14 Year Whiskey
Blended American Whiskey — USA
Reviewed July 1, 2022 (edited October 5, 2022)Finally opened the bottle that was staring at me for several months. On the nose, I recognize a note that I normally relate to Rye... a little grassy and minty. This was surprising, as according to various sources, the blend contains whiskeys that with mash that were about 6% Rye. I got a little oak, but not too much, some vanilla, or brown sugar, and maybe tobacco or leather. On the palate, the mint was there, but lightly; species and peppery (maybe), but with a sweetness that smooths things out. The finish was smooth, but a little light and short for me. At 45% ABV, is not too harsh, nor too warm, so it's easy to sip. The whiskey coated the glass very well, Does this means anything? I don't know, but sometimes you hear about "coating" and "legs" and other terms that push people to believe that thicker legs is a characteristic of a good quality dram. Overall, I am not disappointed with this whiskey, considering the price tag. I think is different, good, and easy to sip and what else can I ask for. If the finish was a little longer, it would have been a 4+ for me.158.0 USD per Bottle -
Ron Navazos Palazzi 23-Year Cask Strength Rum
Aged Rum — Antilles/Jerez, Spain
Reviewed June 30, 2022Over 18 months after my initial taste, this rum didn’t improve. Still had a funky nose and an olive oil note on the palate. Force retiring this bottle. Extremely disappointed for a $100 bottle
