This is one that it would have been sooo much better at 43/46 ABV. The nose is on target for a Speyside whisky, with the aroma of zest citrus, honey, and bread/biscuit. The palate is sweet, and smooth, but not much there... like everything is down to volume 2, and the finish is light and short. This could be a good introduction to Scotch, but you can select other introduction Scothes for a much lower price. For a 16 years, I was expecting a little wow... I only got the w...

I found this whisky rather nice and pleasant. On the nose, the characteristics of the ex-bourbon casks come through with notes of vanilla, but there are also floral and honey notes with a mix of dark fruits. The palate shows a little funkiness (which I sometimes get from Campbeltown whiskies), but there's a little sweetness that carries on. The finish seems long for a 46% ABV, a little peppery/spicy, dry, but not too harsh.

Angostura Cask Collection No 1 3rd Edition
Aged Rum — Caribbean, Trinidad & Tobago
Reviewed August 22, 2022I was looking so much to this one and it just wasn't.... at least for now (neck pour). The nose clearly shows the Oloroso Sherry influence, but then there was a little funk(iness) that took over a little of those notes away. The palate gave me notes of banana and tobacco or leather, followed by a little funk. The finish is smooth, not sweet, rather a little dry with dark fruits and a little spicy, but short to medium. At 40% ABV, I wish it could be higher. I will let it rest and try again in a few months. I got a feeling that the funk will remain.95.0 USD per Bottle -
Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye
Canadian — Alberta, Canada
Reviewed August 14, 2022 (edited August 15, 2022)I think when it comes to Rye whiskeys, this one got my attention. Let's start with the ABV... wow, this is warm all the way, so I got the best enjoyment with a little ice. The Rye notes are strong... grassy, earthy, and mint for me are predominant. But there's some sweetness, like honey running in third/fourth place on the palate. -
This is a fruty and leathery drink. Limited bottling, I have #305/444 after a long search for this type of release. The ABV is 48%, which gives it enough character, compared to most runs at 40%. The color is light gold, and on the palate I get leather/tobacco notes with light citrus. Not disappointed.

Ron Diplomático Selección de Familia
Aged Rum — Venezuela
Reviewed August 13, 2022 (edited August 14, 2022)Had the opportunity to do a side-by-side comparison between Reserva Exclusiva and Seleccion de Familia. In the beginning, it was hard to distinguish between the two, with the exception that RE is a lot sweeter. Based on the price, it gives me the impression that SdF is a better rum, but the website states that both of them are blend of rum up to 12 years old. After a few minutes, the SdF, started to set apart. On the nose, the RE gives me sweet, candy notes, but on the SdF, the sweetness/candy notes are a little muted. The palate on the SdF is a little more woody/leather/tobacco and less sweet, a little bitter. The finish is a little longer on the SdF, 43% ABV. Overall the SdF could be a good sipper. -
Sagamore Spirit 'Sagamore Reserve' Double Oak Rye (2017 Limited Edition Release)
Rye — (bottled in) Maryland, USA
Reviewed August 7, 2022 (edited November 21, 2022)One of the best Rye Whiskey that I had tried. On the nose, I got a strong, but pleasant, vanilla and caramel, with a hint of Rye (hiding in the back of the room). The color is also very nice. On the palate, there's the sweetness of caramel, a little oak, mint, and vanilla. The finish is smooth and long. No harshness, no burning, no over spice. If you are into Rye, give it a try. Really good whiskey. -
Baker's Single Barrel Bourbon 7 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 6, 2022 (edited September 11, 2022)The nose is a little oaky and sweet, but I also get some nutty like almond dust. The palate brings a little spicy, sweet vanilla and oak. I had mine with ice, so didn’t get the full experience. Overall ok, but for the price, there are better choices. -
Loch Lomond 18 Year
Single Malt — Highlands , Scotland
Reviewed August 3, 2022 (edited September 24, 2022)This was a nice surprise. It reminded me of the Glenmorangie 18. The nose is fruity, with honey, caramel, and citrus notes. The palate surprised me, as I was not expecting peat (it was written on the box, but I don't read the box until I try the whisky), but it's pleasant, as the sweet notes from the ex-bourbon cask mellow the whisky through the finish. There's something medicinal on the back end, but the finish welcomes a spicy touch. -
Smoke Wagon Uncut Unfiltered Bourbon
Bourbon — Indiana (bottled in Nevada), USA
Reviewed July 30, 2022 (edited August 12, 2022)I heard so many things about SWUU that when the opportunity came, I had to take it. The nose is very appealing, not harsh and I didn't get too much ethanol. Instead, there was some licorice, but not grassy/minty, which I expected for a high Rye whiskey. The palate was just as pleasant, but I didn't get the wow effect that I was expecting. Overall is not bad, maybe my expectations were too high.
