Bright copper, many thick legs. Plenty of barn funk. A light citrus note, sweet hay, vanilla. Soft mouthfeel, quite warming. Starts sweet but yields to wood quickly. Herbal quality to it in there somewhere mixes with a bit of burnt caramel. A little flat, to be honest. Not bad, just not that exciting.

Elijah Craig Kentucky Straight Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 7, 2021 (edited September 9, 2022)Tarnished amber, moderate stickiness . Nose has lots of spice, mint, green apple and oak. All what one would come to expect from a rye, of course. Front is granny smith apple, then a nice touch of sweetness, then dries out to oak, spice and more tart fruit. Soft, but warming mouthfeel, lots of heat on the palate after the swallow. Clove, cinnamon, mint, and rosemary on the back end, with notes from the wood popping through. Some bitterness and a note of a fresh cardboard box. Not in a bad way, but noted... I like how the mash bill works with the EC wood and char... This works for me as a stand alone, but would make a great old fashioned with a more earthy bitters and a maple or brown sugar simple.32.99 USD per Bottle -
Broad Branch Big Winston Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed January 23, 2021 (edited March 25, 2021)Dark golden with a hint of red. Nice slow legs with sticky curtains. Molasses, corn, deep barrel char and black cherry. Tons of corn and barrel contribution front to finish. A dry cornflake sense. Lots of sweetness sticks around with some chocolatey notes and plenty of oak. If anything, it lacks nuance and smooth transitions between the flavors... But it's all there. This really is very good for a first release. Lacks nuance and smooth transitions between phases, but it's delicious. -

Kirkland 7 Year Small Batch Tennessee Bourbon
Bourbon — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed January 23, 2021 (edited August 19, 2022)Dark golden, some brick tint. Definite notes of rye, a bit of barn must. Some herbal notes: eucalyptus or rosemary. Corn is the biggest presence. A bit too much of an ethanol kick. Kind of rough around the edges... Wonderful sweetness coats the mouth. chocolate, barrel, corn and toasted coconut and almond milk. Too much ethanol on the nose, but it's still enjoyable Outstanding value -
If you want to know what corn brings to a bourbon, this'll get you there. Dark chestnut color. Lots of barrel on the nose. Corn, barrel char, a bit of ethanol. Molasses and dark caramel. Lots of ripe fruits, and a bit of baking spice. Sweet all the way through out, chocolate and more baking spice with a near cola character to it. Peanut brittle that's almost burnt. Corn and barrel all over this. Really quite enjoyable, even if it lacks dimension on the finish.79.99 USD per Bottle

Nose shows plenty of ethanol, corn, a bit of mint, some hints of light caramel, maybe a little rye discernable. Not much going on, flavor-wise. Not bad, just completely unexciting. Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed January 12, 2021 (edited January 22, 2021)Pale straw color, sticky with wide legs. Nose is honey, with tree fruit, berries, a hint of salty smoke. Thin mouthfeel. Light caramel, sweet berries and honey, a bit of warmth on the back of the tongue. Nothing exciting, but it's drinkable and pleasant. -
Amber hued, dark golden. Lots of thick legs. Plenty of rye contribution on the nose. Mint, barn must, fresh cut old oak boards, some tobacco notes. Wonderfully complex. Something perfumey in there. Fairly sweet on the front, somewhat oily... mid palate brings out plenty of spice, coconut, burnt sugar. Long finish is mostly dry, woody and spicy. A lot going on here... Not sure I'd pony up for the hefty price tag...
