Nose: very tight, but opens up into a nice blend of aged wood and leather, kinda like an old old Bible. Palette: the alcohol is surprisingly subtle in the mouth, instead a chewy oakiness steps up to take the limelight, there is also a noticeable nuttiness skirting around Finish: the finish is probably the shortest of $20+ whiskeys I've had, but be careful, if you swallow too quickly you'll shove the alcohol into the back of your throat and enjoy a thorough coughing fit Overall: I expected a massive bruiser of a bourbon but Bakers definitely plays its own elegance well. I got it on sale sub $40, not so sure about it being a value past that mark though. Update: please please don't add water to this bouton. The brute strength is hardly tamed at all and the finish turns into a miserable crash and burn experience.

*note: this is for the prior bottling not shown in the Distiller profile* The mouthfeel of this scotch is thick and oily. It carries some smoky attributes but the star here is a briny flavor that rides into a great finish. To describe this in one sentence: that refreshing feel of ocean spray after a day on the water.

Glenlivet 12 Year Double Oak
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed March 14, 2015 (edited March 25, 2015)This is how I always imagined scotch, smooth and soft. A more delicate mouthfeel than bourbons, more floral and less sweet too. More than anything this scotch is defined by the word smooth, start to finish that's the shining quality. Nothing about this scotch screams buy me, but it is certainly enjoyable. -
Weller Special Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 17, 2015 (edited April 1, 2015)Smooth, simple, textbook bourbon. The flavors don't evolve much on it's path through your mouth, but carry delightful vanilla with a touch of burnt sugaryness. -
My first few pours left a strong impression. EC12 is fantastic, it's smooth and sweet with wonderful oak and barrel spices throughout. I found the finish to be the best part, trailing on much longer than any other bourbons I've had. The only downside was it lacked a little bit of complexity, other than that, this is exactly what I expect out of a daily pour. True bourbon flavors to the nines at an affordable price.

It's cheap, and it's canadian. Which means it's simple (cheap) and pretty dang smooth (canadian). It's nothing to get excited about, but has nothing to really offend either. Brief sweetness and a tiny bit of spice on a short finish. It surely won't kill you, throw in some ice and watch a hockey game, it won't mind not having all of your attention.
