Not my favorite. First pour didn’t do anything for me. Half way through the bottle still nothing. Nose is strong maple which nice. I’ve had much better and flavorful high proof bourbons. This coats the tongue but doesn’t add flavor. Slight thanksgiving spices of cinnamon and nutmeg. Medium burn and finish. Again, much better higher proof options available.

Balcones Hechiceros
American Single Malt — Texas, USA
Reviewed January 8, 2019 (edited December 24, 2023)At first smell there is zero mistaking that this was finished in port casks. Sweet smell of caramel, toasted marshmallows, and raisins. At 120 proof the heat is unmistakable. However it has a rich mouth feel and the single malt comes through nicely; Sweet, strong, and a bit oaky. -
Warms you up quickly. I pick up vanilla and baking spices on the nose. Light on the tongue then the spice and heat rush in. Warm finish that lasts. Added a tsp of water and let it sit for a few minutes. After letting it sit I pick up more fruit and chocolate on the nose. Rich on the tongue. Hints of fruit and buttered toast. Baking spices and heat.
