On the nose explosion of vanilla, caramel, and mushy bananas with hints of rye spice and a light peppery note. I have never been able to pick up the "typical" banana note associated with Jack Daniels products, but this one it really smacks you in the face. On the mouth swish, burnt caramel and rye spice are the predominant flavors with the banana notes from the nose being completely lost. The promise of a wonderful sip from all those lovely notes from the nosing are all but lost with none of the banana, and vanilla apparent at all. The caramel note evident on the nose becomes altered with a burnt flavor that isn't unpleasant but is surprising as no smoke or trace of charring is present on the nose. Overall impressions - Nose 3.5/5; Taste 2/5; Overall 2.75/5 The taste and finish disappoint with few flavors coming through and nothing that lingers, all likely due to the low proof point. On the nose immediate hits of caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, pineapple, orange peel, and some spicey notes of black and white pepper as well as light anise. Very lovely nose. The mouth swirl immediately releases the vanilla, caramel, and sugars onto the tongue and releases tropical fruit notes of pineapple, and mango. The spicey notes hit the throat gently. Notes hitting the nasal passage dissipated quickly. Lingering notes of caramel and vanilla remain on the tongue for a few minutes, but all other notes disappear quick. Overall scoring - Nose 3.5/5; Taste 2.75/5; Overall 3.25/5 Repurchase: Yes Type: Friday Night Pour46.99 CAD per Bottle

On the nose the brine and malt spices take center stage with citrus, honey, vanilla, dried apricot and yellow raisins also apparent. On the mouth swish, a note of smokey brine hits the tongue immediately followed by raisin and apricot. The flavors all stay on the tongue with no nasal or throat burn whatsoever. Vanilla and burnt caramel become apparent on further sips, but are mild with the strongest notes remaining the brine, raisin, and apricot. Overall a complicated and pleasant nose 3.75/5; Taste becomes less complicated offering few of the notes that hit the nose 2.5/5; Overall Impression 2.75/5 Repurchase: No42.49 CAD per Bottle

On the nose, notes of rye spice and black pepper hit first followed by the sweet notes of vanilla, honey, caramel, and honey. Further smelling provides notes of peanut shells and green apples. Upon tasting, the mouth swirl fills tongue with the peppery notes, with very little throat burn or nasal filling an artifact of the low proof. Further sips open the palate to the honey, vanilla, green apple, and caramel notes with a slight white grapefruit and a slight unripened mango. Peanuts that other tasters describe are not that apparent on my palate. The rye spice and peppery notes stick around on the tongue but the sweeter notes dissipate quickly. Nose 2.5/5; Taste 3/5; Overall 2.75/5. This bottle would go beautifully in a bourbon mule or with ginger ale. Repurchase: Yes Type: Mixer/Daily Drinker29.99 CAD per Bottle

Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 14, 2022 (edited May 11, 2023)On the nose, heavy amount of the rye spices upfront with vanilla, honey, caramel and cherry notes in the background. The ethanol from 108 proof is apparent and adds to the spicey notes. Upon the mouth swirl, flavors of caramel, burnt sugar, and vanilla linger on the tongue with the spiciness filling the throat. Black pepper, and citrus notes become apparent with a hint of roasted peanuts. Warm and lasting on the palate and throat in a very nice way. Overall 3/5 on the nose; Taste 3.75/5; Overall 3.75/5 Repurchase: Yes Type: Daily Drinker48.49 CAD per Bottle -
Spicey on the nose with a lot of pepper, rye, anise, and peppermint. Vanilla and caramel are present but subtle. Upon the mouth swish, the peppery notes mellow with vanilla, caramel, honey, and burnt sugars taking the stage. A charred woody note also becomes present. The flavors do not have much of a lingering presence, dissipating quickly a product of the low proof. If this were a higher proofed product, this flavor profile would have much more punch. Overall a good offering from Crown Royal. Nose 3.25/5; Taste 3/5; Overall 3.25/5. Shameful that this product is no longer available. Jack Daniel's Triple Mash
Blended American Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed November 13, 2022 (edited December 12, 2022)On the nose the rye spice and malt from the mash are extremely up front and present. The sweet notes are overshadowed by the peppery notes. Upon the mouth swish, notes of pepper and rye fill the throat with a banana nut bread taste present. The malt, rye spices, and black pepper notes linger in the throat creating a pleasant burn similar to that of a good Canadian Rye. Complex and pleasant. Nose 3/5; Taste 3.5/5; Overall 3.25/5 Repurchase: Yes Type: Daily Drinker48.49 CAD per Bottle -
On the nose its a honey and vanilla bomb with some traces of the rye grain. Upon mouthing and swishing, the nose picks upon black pepper, and more rye grain mixed with heavy honey and a green apple. In the throat, the rye and black pepper notes are more prevalent with a mint or sage note also evident. The honey and vanilla are faint. Nasally, the notes are fleeting but linger in the throat and fill the tongue with the oak and pepper. Nose 2/5 as the notes are simple and mild, Taste 3/5 as more complex layers of tastes show up and have a lasting finish. A very pleasant whisky that is easily crushable and would likely go extremely well as a rye and ginger. Overall 3/5 Repurchase: Yes Type: Daily Drinker/Mixer36.0 CAD per Bottle

Very mild on the nose with vanilla and mild caramel up front. Gentlest hints of rye spices and very subtle green apple and honey. Mouth swirl provides almost nothing nasally with all the flavor accumulating in the throat. Flavors of rye spice, black pepper, oak, and subtle caramel present. Taste dissipates quickly. Overall impression is of a uncomplicated, young, low proof whisky. 2/5 as a score and this may be generous. Repurchase: No37.99 CAD per Bottle

Eagle Rare 10 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 11, 2022 (edited December 12, 2022)On the nose immediate aromas of caramel, vanilla, apple, and raspberry. Tasting fills the nose with caramel and vanilla, but pepper and a light citrus also becomes apparent. In the throat, caramel, vanilla, honey, orange peel, and black pepper are dominant notes. The flavor lingers in the throat and release subtle notes of rye spice, and banana nut bread. Very crushable. Allocated in my region but well worth the hunt.
