Laws Secale Straight Rye Bottled-In-Bond
Rye — Colorado, USA
Reviewed April 20, 2020 (edited September 27, 2021)A copper color and thick semi-watery legs are the visual for this Bottled-in-Bond rye. The nose has complexity and notes of dry straw, heavy dill, black pepper, juniper, overripe apple, and banana. The palate has a creamy mouthfeel and notes of BBQ, baking spices especially cardamom, and melon. There’s a long lingering finish with a fennel and pepper note ending the experience. Cheers, Laws! -
Colkegan Apple Brandy Cask Finish
American Single Malt — New Mexico , USA
Reviewed April 19, 2020 (edited August 20, 2021)If you look in at this beautiful single malt, you’ll notice thin viscous legs clinging to the glass walls and a dry straw gold color shining out. The nose is sweet and Speyside-like, It’s beautiful. There are notes of malt, strawberry milk, dried grass, honey, caramel, and mild mesquite smoke. The palate has a more watery mouthfeel and sweet fruity notes of caramel apple, peach, lemon, apple skins, and BBQ char. The finish starts with an initial heat then turns sweet like Smarties candy. This is one of the tastiest American Single Malts I’ve had thus far! I really like the history of the distillery, vision behind the product, and dedication to local resource use. I definitely recommend and am excited to try more of their products. Colkegan, well done! Sláinte! -
This king among corn boasts a darker orange copper color with thicker semi-viscous legs clinging to the glass. The nose is rich and dark. There are notes of dusty hay, apple, brown sugar, vanilla, mixed berries, cotton candy, and oak. The palate is dry and full as well, with notes of pear, grape Jolly Rancher, cinnamon sugar, creamed corn, and baked sweet potato. The finish is spicy with a taste of peach, and not lasting too long. Okay, this corn whiskey blew my mind! I didn’t think a whiskey in that category would be this full of flavor and complexity! I highly recommend, and I will definitely be looking for this again! Ironroot Republic, Thank you so much! Cheers!

Lazy Guy 5th Article 1887 Rye Whiskey
Rye — Georgia , USA
Reviewed April 19, 2020 (edited June 25, 2020)The color shining out is a light copper. And thick semi-viscous legs march their way back to base. The nose right off is young and green. Notes that follow are flowers, honey, caramel, maple, apple cider, green grass, and nail polish remover. The palate has an oily mouthfeel and is really simple. There are notes of green pine, caramel, vanilla, and tangy lemon. There is a fairly long and, for lack of better term, “grainy” finish. Lazy Guy, I’d age this rye longer, (I know you’re lazy, but I’m doing you a favor and I believe in you.) It all just seems too young. I’d like to give it another go with another couple years under its belt. Until then, thanks for listening. Cheers! -
Telluride Mountain Mash Whiskey
Blended American Whiskey — Telluride, CO, USA
Reviewed April 19, 2020Thin oily legs after a swirl and a dark gold honey color visually draw one in to this whiskey. The nose is fruity and nutty with notes of salted walnuts, honey, black grapes, red apple, vanilla, and milk chocolate. The palate comes off sweet and fruity. Apple, cherry, kiwi, plum, pear, straw stalk in your mouth, and aromatic pipe tobacco notes all play throughout your mouth. The finish is long and dry, slightly altering the overall direction of the journey. Telluride Distilling, Thanks so much! Cheers! -
Wayne Gretzky No. 99 Ice Cask
Canadian — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed April 19, 2020 (edited April 21, 2020)This special Canadian boasts a polished bronze color, and thicker semi-viscous legs ease their way back down the glass. The nose is soft and pretty. It almost has an effervescent smell like champagne or sparkling flavored water. There are also notes of raspberries, mowed grass, and baking spices. The palate has a watery mouthfeel and is overall sweet. There are delicious notes of white wine, maple, honey, orange citrus, and rye spice. The finish is medium in length with a fresh almost minty gum taste sending you off. The whisky is simple but so good! It’s a sweet, delicious dram. And if I ever come across it at a decent price I’ll get it again. Gretzky Estates, Thanks! Cheers! -
Basil Hayden Dark Rye
Other Whiskey — Multiple Countries
Reviewed April 17, 2020 (edited May 12, 2020)This interesting treat is a dark pigskin leather brown. And very thin oily legs dribble down the glass. The nose is quite fruity. There are notes of grape skins, cherry, vanilla, brown sugar, maple syrup, bread yeast, cinnamon, and a reminiscent scent of a craft store. The palate is watery, and notes of red wine, plum, dark chocolate covered cherries, and waxy pecan and cashew meld together. It’s a Christmasy flavor that is really unique. The shorter finish ends not unpleasantly peppery and fruity. This rye threw me off at first when a buddy served me a glass, and I thought was strange until I read up on what it was. With the addition of port wine it really adds a dominant fruity layer, making it a whiskey I believe a wine lover would enjoy. Also the notes bespeak the holidays, so thoughI wouldn’t want it all the time, I may just buy a bottle come Christmas! Beam, thanks for the interesting dram. Cheers!40.0 USD per Bottle -
Honey gold was the misleadingly sweet color in this, for lack of a better word, “whiskey.” And thin semi-viscous legs clung to then dribbled their way back down again. As far as the nose went, right off the bat you knew something was different. The main focus as I inhaled was intense oily smoke and polyurethane fumes. It’s like doing a house demo then burning all the trash instead of throwing it in a dumpster. There was something sweet hiding there, but needless to say, like a peasant in a Monty Python skit, it was being suppressed. The palate, if you can believe it, was worse than the smell! There was an oily mouthfeel and taste, and the only detectable notes I could pick up on was what I imagine wood varnish tasting like, a bitter cloying element, and an acidity that triggered my gag reflex. I literally shuttered when I drank this. The finish was harsh and too long as it was hard to sit through without afterwards taking a sip of water. Wow. I had no idea there would be a whiskey out there I would dislike as much as this. I literally could not finish one glass. I tried, multiple times on different days thinking different factors would cause me to look on it more favorably, but alas, no. Now, the only way I could recommend this whiskey would be as a joke, or a gift to someone you dislike. Otherwise, stay away! Peach Street, I really am not sure what you were going for, but I am really hoping your other products are better than this. Anyways, (with a new whiskey in glass) Cheers!

Jeptha Creed Four Grain Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 7, 2020 (edited February 26, 2022)This bourbon is a light copper color with very thin very viscous legs. The nose is young. It has notes of astringency, corn dust, wildflowers, and vanilla. The palate is young and harsh. Notes of burnt caramel, cheap vanilla frosting, NGS, and pine sap and fight for attention though none should be the leading lady. The finish is hot at first then dives into a short anticlimax. It’s a shame because everything about this bourbon seemed to bespeak excellence! A straight bourbon from Kentucky, a four grain mash bill, even the unique bottle was beautiful! However, this bourbon was a disappointment, I don’t recommend it. Sorry Jeptha Creed. Try again. Cheers! -
Polished brass is the color in this rye whiskey , and thin watery legs dribble down the glass. To me, the nose comes off young, with a curious funk. There are specific notes of sour fruit, moss, wet leaves, dry corn, sweet incense smoke, and wood cleaner. The palate is overall sour with a thin mouthfeel with notes of burnt caramel, granola cereal, Froot Loops dust, and oaky tannins. The thin finish is of medium length. Cheers!
