This brand is actually Schladerer; Schwarzwälder refers to the Black Forest in Germany, where this is produced. Clear in appearance with nutty and alcohol notes prominent on the nose. Faint cherry lingers in the background. The taste is similar to the nose minus the alcohol. Medium mouthfeel and medium-short finish. This is my first kirschwasser and I like it. I find the tartness quite refreshing and there is no burn here. The taste is unlike anything else I have tried. I look foward to trying other brands and maybe sampling local German and Swiss brands if I make it over that way.

Pours deep copper into the glass. Vanilla dominant nose with a mellow fruit influence in the background. The "fruit" notes are akin to whiskey aged in sherry casks. It tastes similar to the nose. Medium mouthfeel with a medium-long finish. Glenmorangie has become one of my favorites recently as I worked through their cask finished expressions and the Original over the last two years. I find this one the smoothest of the four. That is no suprise since it is the oldest. The Nectar d'Or was the sweetest. The Original is good all around. The Lasanta was my favorite being the most robust of the four. I just have to track down a Quinta 12 for comparison.

Straw color on the pour. Vanilla and alcohol notes on the nose. Slight vanilla and fruit flavor with some heat on the way down. Medium mouthfeel and short to medium finish. Very nice for the price. The fruit like flavor reminded me of a sherry aged whisky somewhat. I am a big fan of the other expressions that this is the basis for, so it's no suprise I liked this.

anCnoc 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed October 2, 2020 (edited December 14, 2020)Deep amber on the pour. Sherry sweetness with a honey like influence on the nose. Taste is dominated by a nutty flavor with that sherry note in the background. Thick mouthfeel with a medium finish. Overall, this is a robust whisky with a bit of heat. It reminds me of the Balvenie 12 Double Wood with a little more kick. -
Glenlivet The Master Distiller's Reserve Solera Vatted
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed September 14, 2020A good friend picked this up for me in Abu Dhabi. Generally I prefer more robust whiskies but this is one of the best Scotches I've had. Pours dark amber. Floral, slight chocolate nose. No detectable alcohol. Taste is chocolate and nutty with a medium finish and mouthfeel. This is a definite buy if you like the aforementioned flavors. -
Privateer Navy Yard Rum
Navy Rum — Massachusettes, USA
Reviewed July 17, 2020 (edited November 24, 2021)Pours a nice copper color. Nose is burnt sugar with a slight hint of alcohol. Vanilla and wood notes on the palate with a little heat. No suprise that heat is present since it is 108.6 proof. Medium mouthfeel and medium finish. An old friend from Boston brought this down to me in NJ upon request and it did not disappoint. I started drinking rum with Thomas Tew, which has a similar flavor profile. The Privateer is like Tew but amplified. These New England rums have very clean finishes, indicative of their quality. Barrel #P474 -
Appearance is almost clear with just a hint of straw color. Lime and salt prominent on the nose with black pepper in the background. Sweet agave and herbal flavors on the palate. The sweetness is not overwhelming. The mouthfeel is on the thin side. The finish is medium but leaning towards the short end of the spectrum. This is a smooth, clean tequila. It reminded me of El Tesoro Reposado as that they are both very "clean" tasting and share similar production methods. I tried the Tesoro alongside this and felt there was a bit more black pepper with the El Tesoro. Both quality but I'm leaning toward Fortaleza if given the choice.

Herradura Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Tequila Valley, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed June 3, 2020 (edited July 30, 2021)Straw color on the pour. Alcohol is prominent on the nose with faint agave and the slightest hint of vanilla. Cooked agave, slight smoke, vanilla and black pepper going down. That alcohol scent is minor while tasting. Medium mouthfeel and medium finish. This is a good, affordable reposado. I really liked the Herradura Silver and in comparison, the reposado has a bit more vanilla and smoke going on. The silver was a bit more "earthy", but not in a bad way. I would recommend both. -
Gold in appearance. The nose is much different than the other tequilas I've tried in that there is a very prominent sweetness to it. Almost like a bannana scent. There's very faint agave and black pepper notes as well. That sweet scent blends nicely with agave when sipped. Medium mouthfeel and a medium finish with some slight heat. Definitely a good sipper.

High West A Midwinter Night's Dram Act 7 (All Scenes)
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed April 10, 2020 (edited July 1, 2022)Deep copper appearance. Vanilla, slight caramel and black pepper on the nose. Flavor tastes like the nose. Medium-thick mouthfeel. Medium finish. Not a big rye guy but this is delicious and smooth. There is a touch of that signature rye heat on the way down but just the right amount.
