Dark yellow on the pour. Nose is light with floral notes. Some sherry sweetness along with an almost jasmin like flavor on the palate. Slight heat going down. Medium mouthfeel and a short-medium finish. Overall the flavor is stronger than two other Japanese whiskies I've tried (Nikka Malt and Toki) but still more mellow than most Scotch.

Pours almost clear; there is a slight beige tint. Slight black pepper and vanilla on the nose. Taste is similar to the nose but with a light earthy (almost wood like) flavor added. The pepper takes a back seat to the vanilla. Light-medium mouthfeel and medium finish. This is the 3rd bottle I've bought after two bottles from the highlands (El Tesoro Rep and Olmeca Altos Rep). The highland tequilas definitely have more sweetness and citrus notes going on where this flavor profile is more mellow. It is not light in flavor, it just does not "pop" like those other two. Edit: This grew on me. I was somewhat prejudiced when trying this bottle, looking for that more citrus foward profile of the Highlands tequilas. After accepting that it won't replicate that flavor profile, I was able to appreciate it. That more mellow flavor works well in a sip session.

Nice golden color on the pour. Nose is faint vanilla and cereal with a whiff of alcohol. Thick mouthfeel. Cereal, vanilla, dark chocolate and just a tinge of alcohol on the palate. Medium-long finish with slight heat on the way down. Definitely more robust but also a little rougher than other Irish whiskies due to double distillation. Overall good for the price, especially if you like the stronger flavors more often found in Scotch.

Olmeca Altos Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed March 8, 2020 (edited May 7, 2020)Nice golden color in the glass. Alcohol, cooked agave and some sweetness on the nose. Taste is similar to the nose with a bit more sweetness and heat. Medium mouthfeel and finish. Not bad for the price. -
I've drank plenty of whiskey, rum and brandy but this is my 1st bottle of tequila. Pours almost clear with a slight beige tinge. Nose is salt, alcohol and black pepper. Taste is cooked agave, smoke, some sweetness and a hint of green pepper and mint. Medium mouthfeel. Medium, clean finish. I'm going to enjoy going down this rabbit hole. Side note... the stopper is like a mini tahona and it's somewhat heavy. Handle it with care.

Glenmorangie Lasanta Sherry Cask Finish 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 14, 2020Pours dark amber. Nose is sherry foward. Sherry influence is present in the taste but there's a vanilla and chocolate presence from the bourbon barrels. Medium mouthfeel and finish. I generally prefer more robust flavors but this is on point. Very smooth. -
Kilkerran 12 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed January 21, 2020 (edited May 11, 2020)Been looking for this for some time and it was worth it. Pours a slightly dark straw color. Nose is salt and smoke. The smoke hits you upfront with an almost honey sweetness on the back end. As other reviews here have stated, it's more of a "smoked meat" smoke. Medium mouthfeel and long finish. I was able to compare this with Springbank 10 and liked this better. The Springbank was very good but the flavors in the Kilkerran just stood out more. I need to try one of the 12 year Springbanks for a true comparison. -
Pours a golden straw color. Smoke and some fruit sweetness on the nose. Palate similar to the nose with smoke, light fruit sweetness plus an earthy peatiness. Medium mouthfeel and finish. I was able to try this side by side with Kilkerran 12. The Springbank is a fine whisky but I liked the Kilkerran a bit more. I felt the flavors in the Kilkerran were more robust. I'll be looking to try one of the 12 year Springbanks next.

Nice light copper color. Nose has raisin notes. Taste is similar to the nose with a light raisin sweetness along with some heat. Medium mouthfeel and finish. This was the first Armagnac I've tried so I was a little biased, initially comparing it to Cognac. I found it somewhat harsher than cognac in regards to having some more heat but the flavor was more robust (due to the single distillation). This stronger character paired better with the maduro cigars I like. I am looking foward to sampling other Armagnacs.
