Alberta Premium Canadian Rye Whisky
Canadian — Canada
Reviewed December 29, 2019 (edited June 3, 2020)Okay it's really inexpensive, but that's it. Smells and tastes like cheap alcohol, I hate that. If you get over that, it tastes like a typical rye, not a very good one, and diluted.26.0 CAD per Bottle -
If you hate rye don't bother, obviously, otherwise you have to taste it, it is a very intriguing rye with a good complexity. Nose: Raspberry, hints of slightly fermented grass. Brown sugar sweetness and a touch of vanilla. There is some tartness that reminds of red wine vinegar. Palate: Raspberry jam, peppery rye spices, charred oak, not that sweet. Thin texture and a bit dry, not the most pleasant feeling but not bad either. Finish: Strawberry candy and raspberry jam, very fruity. Medium+ length. +0.25 for price/quality38.0 CAD per Bottle

Kilkerran 12 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed December 23, 2019 (edited December 24, 2020)Nose: The peat is very controlled and coated in sweetness, great balance. Coal and rotting grass. Salty and heavily smoked meat. Some water brings out some fresh ripe pears, yellow apples and a hint of vanilla. The saltiness comes out a bit stronger but is overpowered by the sweetness. The malt is now there as well. a hint of lemon custard and walnut. Palate: Intensity and sweetness, by which the peat is covered. Olive oil and a bit of ash. Juicy feeling like a very fatty smoked meat, makes you salivate. A few drops of water lets the malt and the wood shine. Pears and walnuts are back in the dance. finish: A return of the campfire on a beach. Long finish, smoke tends to last longer in my experience. Gets more meaty with water. Overall very complex, layered and changing yet very enjoyable. Very good quality/price for a scotch.85.0 CAD per Bottle -
Gooderham & Worts Four Grain Canadian Whisky
Canadian — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed December 23, 2019 (edited February 17, 2020)This is an amazing whiskey. It is very atypical, both complex and very easy to enjoy. Interestingly perceptible influence of the wheat, the corn and the rye with a perfect balance. a delicious, profond, suprising whisky. Nose: Dried and slightly dusty cereals, raisins macerating in spiced rum, crème brûlée crust, cherries, a lot of sweetness. There is a distinct spice which I believe to be cumin. Very rich, complex and powerful. Palate: Very aromatic, an explosion of flavours. A lot of what was in the nose comes back on the palate. Very sweet and pleasantly liquorous. Very refined taste. Brown sugar, some blackberry fruit paste. The colour brown comes to mind when I have this in my mouth. Finish: Medium length. More woodiness, a lot drier than before but still a good sweetness. A return of the raisins in rum. Price/quality is absolutely insane, +0.5 for that. You absolutely need to taste this.45.0 CAD per Bottle
