Nose: Bright and fruity. Apricot and apple sauce with touches of vanilla and honey. Taste: Immediate light sweetness with toffee and dried fruit that fades into a very pleasant tease of oak. Almost like a muted dried pineapple. Extremely tasty. One of the best whiskey’s I have had to date. Neat. 11.8.20.

Heaven Hill Bottled In Bond 7 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 6, 2020 (edited December 8, 2020)Smell: Sweet corn and maple with light vanilla and oak. Taste: Exactly like the nose. Oak flavor is extremely faint compared to the sweet bites of the corn and maple. Brown sugar and vanilla show up as well. Very smooth and crisp. Fantastic bourbon. 11.6.20. Neat. -
Smell: Light oak and vanilla. Hints of sweetness. Very light nose. Hint of vanilla wafers. Taste: Immediate sweetness with a quick appearance of oak that fades away pretty quickly into a dry finish. Light and smooth, borderline thin. This isn’t something overly complex or spectacular. Just a solid, straight forward, classic bourbon. Neat. 11.6.20

Smell: Oaky with hints of brown sugar. A lot of spice on the nose as well, particularly mint. Taste: starts sweet and fades into a minty type taste with a strong oak backbone. Extremely dry and fades very quickly. Pretty stark contrast from the sweeter and smoother Kentucky bourbons. Not exciting. Will revisit this one later. Neat. 11/4/20.

Smell: Light vanilla and brown sugar. Warm smelling. Definitely can sense the heat behind the barrel proof strength as well. I get a fresh baked bread smell with a little fruit on the nose after a couple sips. Taste: First sip is very hot and seems to coat the mouth. Not a lot of taste. Following sips start as a sweet brittle and fade into a brown sugar note for my palate. Warm and inviting despite being pretty hot. Neat. 11/4/20.

Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 28, 2020 (edited October 30, 2020)Smell: Like a cup of melted butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar. A glaze for freshly baked banana walnut bread. Taste: just like the smell. First flavor is a little confusing to me. Fades quickly into a burn. Overall this is good. Having a lot of trouble putting my finger on the flavor profiles. This is the best I can do after a couple tastes. 10.29.20. Neat. -
Smell: Sweet brown sugar with strong oak notes as well. Reminds me of a traditional bourbon. Taste: Very smooth. Sweet brown sugar and caramel with a warm feeling in the chest. Strange taste for a scotch, reminds me of a bourbon. Not something I would buy, not because it isn’t tasty, just because it doesn’t taste like a scotch to my palate. Neat. 10.23.20

Smell: Strong resemblance to the Lagavulin 16 with profound Islay characteristics of peat smoke and briney salt water notes. Maybe a hint of minty spice hiding underneath. Taste: Very friendly balance of leather and peat with a after kick of black pepper that burns the throat afterwards. Has the characteristics of the Lagavulin 16 that I love with a heavier and spicier note. Can definitely tell this is a younger scotch as a result, the oak and char tastes of the barrel are found in the spicy notes behind the peat smoke. Great scotch. A good variety from the more traditional 16yr offering. 10.15.20. NEAT.
