Method and Madness Single Malt Enhanced With French Oak Casks

Reviewed November 2, 2022Really complex but still softer and less distinguishable in it's flavor profile. -
What a fantastic rye. I don't think I've ever had one finished in pork barrels, but it is a perfect complement to the rye. It's really tasty and really sweet, and it might have more corn in the mash bill than most other ryes. Or maybe that's the port. This is very complex, with a syrupy roundness around the rye spice, leading to a very nice sweet and spice balance. As it opens up and mellows, there's a more herbal, grassy finish on the nose, and water really brings out some cool flavors, including this note I can't quite figure out. I don't know if it's like a pot still funkiness or apricot, orange peel, or honeysuckle. But it sits there and lingers in The taste and the nose and is really nice. I really like this rye.Lloyd

Aberlour A'bunadh
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 11, 2022 (edited December 13, 2022)This may be my first speyside scotch I've tasted, so maybe I'm still learning how to taste it. But the Sherry notes are completely integrated into the flavor here to the point that you can't distinguish them, but in a really pleasant way. A lot of red fruit flavors and a great evolution. It's a strong bite and a light medium body, but with less flavor in the middle than you would think. It has a woody roundness to the flavor. Even as it opens up, the beginning and the body have a mellower taste, but the finish becomes kind of harsh. It's not a very pleasant end. But maybe this is the spiciness people talk about with speyside scotches. But with this age and secondary finish, I expected a softer experience in the back end.Lloyd -
Henry McKenna 10 Year Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 11, 2022 (edited August 20, 2022)High corn, really boozy. And almost mint freshness, though. It has a pleasant, tingling mouthfeel and aftertaste, almost like Szechuan pepper. That burn cuts through everything for quite a while. I imagine it would stick around for a while, even with ice or in a cocktail. But eventually, it opens up, and then there's the taste of sweet peanut, caramel, and toffee. Really lovely and complex.Lloyd -
