I see this as a toned down 10 year. I'm thinking this is Ardbeg's way of making their signature taste more accessible to the masses. That's fine I guess, but I sincerely hope that the rumors that this will replace the 10 are unfounded, as the 10 possesses far more character and appeal to me. I mean... Ardbeg has such a distinct, powerful flavor profile. Doesn't watering it down to make it smoother defeat the purpose?!

Dad's Hat Pennsylvania Rye Whiskey
Rye — Pennsylvania, USA
Reviewed March 14, 2018 (edited September 12, 2020)As others have said, definitely a light fruity, floral twist here. Unmistakable rye backbone though. Definitely something different for rye lovers. Hey... you don't want every rye you taste to taste like every other rye! -
Jim Beam Pre-Prohibition Style Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 28, 2018 (edited January 3, 2019)Middle of the road. Missing that extra rye kick that I enjoy, but acceptable. No mistaking there's rye in there. Not too harsh. Not too sweet. Gets the job done. Don't pay more than $30 for a bottle though. -
Bulleit Rye
Rye — Indiana (bottled in Kentucky), USA
Reviewed February 5, 2018 (edited February 23, 2018)It's a little thin compared to its betters (Rittenhouse), and with a sweetness that tends to mask the underlying spice a wee bit. That said, at $50 for a 1.75 liter, it's tought to beat. Good bargain mixer.
