Tastes

A classic. Bright and fruity with strong chinotto and grapefruit presence. Bitter finish to balance a sweeter opening. Some rhubarb as well.

Smells and tastes like an earthier Campari. Also has a bit of subdued cherry.

Very pleasingly bitter with an herbal bite and slight quinine presence.

Impulse purchase at the SAQ on a recent trip to Montreal; not really what I was hoping for. Overly saccharine sweet upfront with a somewhat artificial lemon presence. I don't get any gentian character. I was looking for a possible substitute for Suze or Biancosarti in cocktails; this won't work.

My first Quebec amaro. Mix of sweet orange citrus and menthol / alpine herb character. Definite warming quality - I am getting some definite cinnamon hearts type character. Faint licorice in the background. Respectable - but not among my favourites.

Comparing to my homemade basilicello and this is a clear cut above; less empty sweetness and a more incisive herbal basil profile.

Italy's answer to Green Chartreuse - and somehow it is stronger and more potent. Very herbal. Similar to and different from Green Chartreuse all at the same time. There is a bit of a basil character that I am enjoying. It is also decidedly more minty than Green Chartreuse, which gives it a bit of a mouthwash character. A little bit goes a long way as there is definite heat in the finish. Drink in very small quantities if consuming neat. I am curious about this might substitute for Green Chartreuse in cocktails.
