Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed September 27, 2014 (edited March 8, 2017)Dates, warm treacle, figs and oak on a smokey blanket. Very chewy indeed. -
Ardbeg Corryvreckan
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed September 25, 2014 (edited December 6, 2020)Lovely smoky flavours but the wee dram I tasted wasn't enough to experiment fully with dilution. It's perfectly drinkable neat but a few drops of water revealed more complexity. An aftertaste for bacon lovers. -
Willett Family Estate Small Batch Rye 4 Year
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 19, 2014 (edited July 24, 2020)Beautiful. Drink neat with a single large ice cube. -
Revisiting this with my more refined palate I find I like it more than I had done. Not enough peat on the nose for my liking and the flavour profile is a little sharp and monotone on the palate. A dash of water opens it up and the finish is lovely and long, with suggestions of clove and honey amid the smoke.

Glenfiddich 18 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 20, 2014 (edited November 13, 2020)Sherry notes on the nose, somewhat sharp upfront but lovely caramel and orange flavours to the long aftertaste. Added a fourth star after warming to its Christmas pudding qualities over repeated tastings.
