It starts out hot, lots of alcohol on the nose. But once you let it breathe, the sweetness emerges. I preferred the Bourbon Batch 5 to this single barrel #47, but still glad I got a bottle and looking forward to seeing how it evolves once it has been open a while.

I like this a lot. Does not compare to the 2013 Port Wood Cairdeas, but is superior to the Brodir and the international traveler Port Wood that I found in Germany in January just before Covid shut down all my travels. The color is beautiful, the nose is amazing, and the taste is very good.

It’s good, but at $49 there are better choices out there. I do appreciate the transparency in terms of each bottle’s label (mine was 7 years 0 months)

Agree with many of the other tasting notes. However, it’s a little spicier and hotter than I prefer. Don’t know that I’d buy this one again.

I really enjoyed this. It is spicey and sweet. If you want peanut brittle flavor in your bourbon then this one is NOT for you. I preferred it neat rather than with a drop of water or on a big cube. I’ve now had the Old Carter American Batch 3, the Bourbon Batch 5 and the Rye Batch 4. I really liked them all - in that order of preference. I hate to admit it, but I’m turning into a fan of this (well) sourced whiskey. The price for any of them is high - even at the slightly below MSRP that I was able to pick each up at - but the quality is really good. I read reviews all the time that say a bottle is great, but they can’t justify paying 2x the price of some really good old standby. Personally, I’m getting to the point where I’d rather drink less of something ‘great’ than buy two bottles of something ‘good’. Probably a healthier choice too! 😎

I opened this 4 days ago and my initial impression was “what a waste of money!” It was nothing but oak on the palate and the finish was tight and astringent. But each day I revisited it and it got better. Now after 4 days and just below the shoulder, it is a whiskey transformed. Still a fair amount of oak, but now there is a lot more on offer. Still not sure it was worth the price ($160) but it is a very solid bourbon.
