Maker's Mark 46 French Oaked
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 31, 2016 (edited November 20, 2016)Well, at the beach house with the kids waiting for Sharknado 4 and poured a dram from my nephew's share. The nose is an amplified Makers Mark of vanilla, cinnamon, cherry and leather. Viscous body that delivers an oaky and ground cinnamon palate with a touch of honey and vanilla. The cinnamon spice quickly intensifies and as quick it crescendos it fades. The mouth is left dry and oaky and vanilla notes linger about. Add some ice or water to quell the cinnamon intensity and oak tannins. Perfect dram for a Sharknado. [85/100][7/31/16] -
Talisker Distillers Edition
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed May 29, 2016 (edited June 4, 2021)As Memorial closes, and a nice meal of pecan-smoked steak, decided today to finally enjoy this whisky. Smoke, though not overpowering, greets you and the sweet richness of raisins, vanilla, brown sugar and a touch of nougat and chocolate (like a Milky Way). A rich spiciness opens the palate. A nuttiness dominates once the spicy notes dissipates other whisps of smoke and brown sugar. As it fades, the Talisker smoke stays with you with a touch oak. A lovely, sweeter version of the standard; one to lose you thoughts to and escape. [$65][90/100][Opened: 5/29/16] -

Milagro Silver Tequila
Tequila Blanco — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed May 20, 2016 (edited May 25, 2016)A simple and fresh nose of green vegetables like lettuce and, as Stephanie points out, cucumber with a dash of salt. The body is thin and watery and delivers some green rawness (or is it fresh, as in unripened) and tropical fruits like pineapples; an ambrosia. Finishes short and minty. Add some ices and the sweetness is drawn out and that rawness is lessened. Much more palatable over ice. Not a bad tequila and much better than JC. Perfect to enhance a Margarita; well suited to "class" them up, yet the price may fool you into believing it's low quality.[$19][84/100][Opened: 5/20/16] -
After breathing for some time, the first aroma stirs thoughts of a warm spring day on a ball field with your favorite baseball glove; you place the glove over you nose and take in that warm, fresh leather aroma. I am brought back to my childhood years. Breathe again and the aroma of Cracker Jacks (caramel popcorn) add more youthful baseball flashbacks. Small hints of bananas. The initial sip is hot and strong. The secondary sip is softer and the cinnamon notes are the primary player. The finish is oaky with black pepper and lasts virtually forever. This whiskey requires water. A good teaspoon opens the fruity side and awakens the banana and vanilla notes. The dram softens and becomes sweeter and greatly improved. An excellent bourbon that needs to be slowly sipped. A much more sophisticated bourbon. On par with Bookers or Four Roses. [$60][Opened: 4/24/16; 5/6/16][88/100]60.0 USD per Bottle

Bruichladdich The Classic Laddie Scottish Barley
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed April 26, 2016 (edited August 15, 2018)A long weekend to Maryland and purchased this at a reasonable price. Being partial to Bruichladdich, I figured this would be a low risk high reward scotch....and I was proved correct. The nose is somewhat unique, complex and delightful. The barley is strong in this one (Star Wars weak reference) that is sugary sweet, floral, tropical of apricots, pineapple. Wafting in the background supporting the aromas, is the maritime sea air the slowly gets stronger over time. The initial arrival is soft and confectionery sweet. Once arrived, the palate tuns slightly orange citrusy and bitter (orange rind) with a touch of oak. The palate is left with these same notes with a touch of spearmint. A touch of water is recommended. The barley becomes much more distinct and the palate sweeter. The bitterness is lessened, however the finish is slightly shorter. This dram was/is a delight that conjures (for me) images of summer days at the beach house with family, friends, margaritas, Bob Marley, sunsets and we "Don't Worry 'bout a thing."
