Traverse City Whiskey Co. XXX Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Michigan, USA
Reviewed April 12, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)this is a nice find. the nose jumps out sweet and spicy, then settles as it breathes. taste brings a similarity to the nose with spices but they are more subtle, you will also find cinnamon, carmel, and citrus. this is a nicely balanced drink that at a modest price is enjoyable. -
The noise is sweet with vanilla, a hint of cinnamon, pepper and very lite wood. Fist taste impression was also sweet with a mild bite, and a maple, vanilla flavor with a noticeable rye accent. There is a burn but it seems to balance with the sweet noise. It thins out quickly and the sweet hangs as the burn fades. This is an OK whiskey, noting really jumps out at you. It isn't complex at all. It's over shadowed by sweetness. This could be a good fist time, or lite whisky drinkers choice.

The noise lets you know that this is a rye. It also has hints of vanilla, cinnamon, and floral. First notes are somewhat thin but warms up nicely with pepper, other spices, caramel. The finish stays with you holding the rye with a bit if oak. This is a nice young rye that will be a good in any setting..

Found this to be a pleasant inexpensive bourbon. I found the nose to have a vanilla accent that dominates. Taste also has a vanilla sweet flavor. There is also an underlining brown sugar and lite oak taste. Finish is mild with very little burn, and fades quickly. Something to have when sitting around with friends, or an ok starter for people new to bourbon or don't like big fat bourbons.

The nose is BIG a lot of spice and vanilla. Fist taste is very sharp with an almost over powering cinnamon flavor but it doesn't over power the rye. Once past the first taste it will settledown and becomes very smooth for a 100 proof rye. Tis isn't your typical rye might take a bit getting used to, but it is very interesting and I would recommend to try it at least once to see how it plays for you. Don't pass it up something to check out..
