Knob Creek 15 Year Bourbon (2020 Release)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 16, 2022 (edited May 25, 2023)Not as nutty and aged as I hoped but more over-oaked with drying and hot tannins. Slight caramel flavors and sweetness but overpowering for a 15 year of hot cinnamon, leather, flambeed orange peel, and burnt sugar. Not really complex either with a medium finish and a medium-light weight to it. Better than most but many other great bourbons out there under $100 -
Pusser's Rum 15 Year (Guyana)
Navy Rum — Guyana
Reviewed September 24, 2022 (edited December 7, 2024)Smells rich and complex with notes of molasses, raisins, and a savory note that I cannot quite pinpoint - which carries into the flavor as well which tastes like mincemeat. A great sipping rum that is rich yet has a thin body with a medium long finish. -
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch B522
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed September 24, 2022 (edited September 26, 2023)Very rich and viscous with flavors of cocoa powder and maple, a punch of spices such as cinnamon, clove, allspice and an alcoholic brightness of apple and lemon peel. There's a slow crescendo of alcoholic heat, but it soon fades without any change in flavor. Still one of the best bourbons out there; 12years old at barrel proof for ~$70 but this isn't the most outstanding expression from ECBP -
Elijah Craig 23 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 18, 2022 (edited December 22, 2022)Musty and nutty with flavors of caramelized fruit, mostly orange, and flavors of vanilla and leather. The finish is medium long and the mouth feel is quite thin. Slightly too tannic. I haven't had the 18yr or 21yr but it seems like 23yrs may be too much. Still worth the taste of something in a barrel (single barrel at that) for 23years. Still delicious and has the flavors of Elijah Craig yet it lacks the punch -
Yellowstone Select Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 25, 2022 (edited April 23, 2022)Initial heat of cinnamon and baking spice, with following classic bourbon flavors of vanilla, oak, slight coconut and cinnamon. Medium length and body. I want to hate this bourbon - sourced, NAS, and with a fake story, but it is quite a good bourbon with classic flavors. I never would have thought of buying this bourbon with it being around $40 - but as prices begin to skyrocket, this may be a solid buy.
