Green Spot Single Pot Still
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed April 18, 2020 (edited April 20, 2020)First had this at a bar in Dingle, Ireland, on the rocks. Recommended by the bartender as a local favorite. Didn't care much for whisky back then but was one of the more memorable ones I had in my visit to the country. Finally found a bottle being offered locally, because this one isn't as common as other Irish offerings from, say, Redbreast and Jameson. The Green Spot pours out a light honey color, similar to Alfalfa Honey. Aroma is wonderful, laced with tropical fruits - oily coconuts and sweet pineapple, some dried fruit (e.g., apricot, though much less pronounced) too. Taste was done neat, in a Glencairn. It's hard to say where this whiskey starts and where it ends. There is very little separation of flavor here. From the moment you take a sip and drink it down, you get a little bit of that oily fruitiness, some oak, a spice that grows, climaxes and slowly fades, a lingering brininess, and a bitter/sour nip at the very end. This goes down SMOOTH - making it a very enjoyable medium-bodied drink on it's own.61.99 USD per Bottle -
Kirkland 22 Year Speyside Single Malt Sherry Cask Finish
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed March 8, 2020 (edited May 3, 2022)An unexpected gem from the costco liquor store. Strong sherry presence on both the nose and taste, along with vanilla, raisins, chocolate, apples, and other fruits on the nose. Taste is fruity with a strong sherry presence. Spice hits second. Oak hits third for a smoky, woody finish. Goes down a bit thin, not as smooth as, say, a glenlivet 18 (not that it's a great comparison, but I'm not that experienced either), but definitely more flavorful. Overall, definitely worth the price tag!82.99 USD per Bottle -
Glenlivet 15 Year French Oak Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed January 10, 2020 (edited April 4, 2020)Vanilla. LOTS of vanilla. In the nose and taste. Followed by oak notes. Smooth sipper with some burn. Not as smooth as 18 year, but that's expected. Mouthfeel is, in fact, a bit watery. Feels thin at first sip but lands heavy on the palette. Leaves a sweet apple-like aftertaste. Overall a very pleasant, underrated drink. -
