Ardmore Traditional Peated
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed April 12, 2019 (edited April 13, 2019)Not too bad drop at all. Relatively heavy peat , goes on easy but not too much complexity. Tasted with several mates as part of a flight of whiskeys. definitely prefer it to the legacy version. -
Dalmore King Alexander III
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed April 6, 2019 (edited April 9, 2019)Pretty muted dram flavour wise. Malty, woody caramel, mild sherry. Middle of the road taste and high price. -
Sonoma County Distilling Co. Sonoma Rye
Rye — California , USA
Reviewed March 29, 2019 (edited March 29, 2021)I'm usually pretty forgiving with Rye based whiskeys but this one really isn't that great. it's got the usual Rye characteristics but it's got a bit of a weird bitter burnt floor polish type plasticy ethanol taste going on. -
Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Brora
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed March 15, 2019 (edited December 26, 2020)Really interesting dram. Popcorn and mint make a really different flavour combination. Although a great dram it's not one I personally would drink a lot of due to the mint characteristic. I much preferred the Port Ellen version. Great way to hit the 600th review milestone with a double heading of ghost distilleries! -
Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Ellen
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed March 15, 2019 (edited January 28, 2022)This is pretty good stuff for Johnnie Walker. Beautiful sweet peat. very lagavullin like...car oil, smokey, waxy. A very complex dram. Slightly shorter on the aftertaste, but still great experience. They didn't skimp on the good stuff. -
Tullamore D.E.W. 14 Year Single Malt
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed March 9, 2019 (edited March 18, 2020)Ah Tullimore Dew might not not have been my first but it was my staple living in Ireland and one of the drops that made me think hey whiskey isn't to bad. I didn't drink it straight that was another decade before I went down that path. I used to take a hip flask into the pub get a pint of water and drop a dram or two in. Yeah I know cheap but hey mid 20s and very little money was my excuse. Also drinking that much water helped stave off hangovers.... the oddities of youth. Anyhow I saw this and the 18 yr samples and thought ah for nostalgia...not that I drank the aged statements. Mine was the bog std stuff. I like this, brown sugar green apples. Usually I don't like the latter but with the oily spiciness it pulls it off. I'd poured this dram b4 I realised the stir fry had ginger and garlic.. usually a match I stay away from but the dram pulled through and maybe it even complimented or perhaps diminished the components I might not usually like...or maybe its the psychology of nostalgia..
