Style - 1.5 oz w/ .5 oz Filtered Water in a Norlan Glass Nose - Man, now I know what people mean by "opening up". Immediately got vanilla notes and only detect the ethanol if I'm looking for it. Oak. Fruitiness, but I can't place the specific fruit. Mulled wine vibes. Taste - Still notice the alcohol in the taste but its not as dominant as it was without the water, quickly fading. Sherry. Dried fruit sweetness. Sliiiiiight chocolate notes in the aftertaste. Finish - Soft on the tongue with a nice warmth emanating from the stomach and stopping in my throat. Score - 4.25 Scoring Legend 5.0 - Near perfect, there is something truly special about this whisky. 4.5 - Amazing, will always try to keep a bottle of this in my collection (if feasible). 4.0 - Very Good, maybe only one minor nitpick about the whisky keeping it here. 3.5 - Good, quite enjoyable to drink. 3.0 - Solid, wouldn't go out of my way to get it. 2.5 - Meh, still drinkable. Nose - Sweet fruits, maybe a plum. Molasses notes if I nose it for longer periods. Taste - Morphs from an initial surprise burn, to a flash of sweetness, to an intense tingle from the ABV. Late, almost notes of vanilla tobacco. Finish - Sticks to the tongue but doesn’t linger anywhere else. The aftertaste begins to develop deeper sweet notes. Score - 4.0 Scoring Legend 5.0 - Near perfect, there is something truly special about this whisky. Lagavulin Offerman Edition 11 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed March 14, 2021 (edited May 28, 2021)Nose - Peat smoke, salt, a steak being grilled over a charcoal grill in the distance. Taste - The drink is an experience. You immediately get the smoke and the flavor begins to explode throughout your mouth. The flavor washes out into a numbness from the ethanol. Finish - Transforms as your tongue takes it in, like a shower of sparks. The delicious aftertaste lingers and the warmth continues to eliminate in your throat. Score - 4.75 Scoring Legend 5.0 - Near perfect, there is something truly special about this whisky. Under 2.5 - If you have a bottle of this, start cooking with it instead. -
Nose - Peat, brine, sea spray, smoke. Taste - Earthiness, no meat like I get from the Lagavulin Offerman Edition. You get the taste of peat, but almost as if it’s unsmoked. The aftertaste is similar to tobacco smoke. Finish - Very smooth. I could easily have a glass of this. The feeling left in my mouth is similar to the one after a cigar. Score - 4.5 Scoring Legend 5.0 - Near perfect, there is something truly special about this whisky. Glenlivet 12 Year Double Oak
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed March 14, 2021 (edited March 23, 2021)Nose - Clean. Very open and inviting, almost like nosing a white wine. Apple. Taste - Very smooth with very little bite. Very hard to identify a strong taste, I would say it just tastes like solid scotch at its most basic. Finish - The only way you know there’s alcohol is in the finish, with some heat on the exhale through the nose. Score - 3.75 Scoring Legend 5.0 - Near perfect, there is something truly special about this whisky. Under 2.5 - If you have a bottle of this, start cooking with it instead. -
Nose - Apple, light smoke, spices. Taste - Oakey, with the peat smoke waiting until it hits the back of your palate. Finish - Thin, the burn lasts in the esophagus more than anything else. Nose - The peat and the chocolate malt have a nice mix here, with both combatting one another for a smoky sweet medium. Reminds me of being at a petting zoo. Haley’s nosing was “it’s like a mechanic in a carpet store”. Taste - I know chocolate malt doesn’t include chocolate, but there’s definitely chocolate notes here, with a hint of smoke. The after taste is exactly the same as if I just finished a bowl of cocoa pebbles. Finish - Definitely a bit more burn than the others from Motor City tonight, but in a good way. It barely lingers, but you feel a bit more numbness on the side of your tongue. Score - 3.5 Scoring Legend 5.0 - Near perfect, there is something truly special about this whisky.
