WhistlePig The Boss Hog 六: The Samurai Scientist
Rye — Canada
Reviewed December 13, 2019 (edited May 20, 2020)Really nice light nose, bright fruits with honey and licorice. Really beautiful, bit of heat on the tongue but shockingly smooth for a barrel proof. It is fruity and big and herbal. Finish goes on forever. -
Aberlour A'bunadh
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 11, 2019 (edited December 12, 2019)Heavy sherry on the nose, but with a large floralness. It’s a bit hot but to be expected. Extremely flavorful, and beautifully sweet. Tiny bit of smoke on the finish and so much fruitiness. This is excellent -
Quite unique nose, it’s a woody sweetness that apparently is characteristic of French oak. The palate is slightly less interesting, it has more of a fruity sweetness with the French oak taking a back seat. The finish is really nice, and sweet but a bit short. Finish sweetness is reminiscent of vanilla cake

Honey sweet on the nose, very floral and herbal. Bit of vanilla as well. This really jumps out the glass! It is nutty and spicy then turns towards a very oaky finish. The finish is almost smoky. Really really strong and interesting, this is a far cry from the light delicacy Japanese whiskey is known for.

Wild Turkey Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 7, 2019 (edited January 28, 2020)Slightly smoky and nutty on the nose. Not much else to find as far as I can tell. Surprisingly soft with little alcohol burn. Probably cause of low proof. That’s not to say there isn’t any flavor though. This has all the classic bourbon flavor in the world with baking spices, cherry, and a slightly Smokey aftertaste. Really quintessential bourbon at a great price. -
Van Winkle Special Reserve Lot "B" 12 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 2, 2019 (edited August 29, 2022)This has the most beautiful sweetness to it i think I’ve ever tasted. I don’t have enough of it right now to do a full review but wowowow this is incredible. The texture is literal velvet. It evolves as it sits in the glass. -
Johnnie Walker Green Label 15 Year
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed December 2, 2019 (edited December 17, 2019)Light peat smoke on the nose, and surprisingly bright and fruity. A lot of oak as well. On the palate, it is incredibly mellow full, and rich. The oak really takes over and I think it’s got a lot of tanons(?). It’s a little peppery, and it finishes with a nice light cigar smoke to it. Really lovely dram, super easy going and would be a great introduction to peat imo. -
Oban Bay Reserve (Game of Thrones-The Night's Watch)
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed November 25, 2019Bright and fruity on the nose, with hints of apple, cherry and honey sweetness and very little smoke. Tiny bit of alcohol burn on the tongue, so this is likely a relatively young scotch. Still maintains the bright fruitiness of the nose and the apple shines through especially well. A bit of leather on the back end and some smoke on the finish too. Overall a very nice and interesting sram, that could really be perfected with a bit more time in the barrel.
