Now that’s unusual. Strong aroma of cocoa powder with a hint of…ashes? Thick, creamy mouthfeel, with rich flavors of chocolate and oak on the palette. A bit of smoke, almost like bacon, appears on the long finish. Aroma of cedar wood in the empty glass. 3 cl sample from The Premium Whisky Advent Calendar (2020 Edition).

Bourbon Whiskey #1 (That Boutique-y Whiskey Co.)
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed December 27, 2021 (edited February 6, 2023)Sometimes peanuts, sometimes cherry, and all the time cedar blocks or chips in the aroma. Moderately sweet on the palette, with a hint of wallpaper paste. Despite the description, I actually do like this bourbon. 3 cl sample from The Premium Whisky Advent Calendar (2020 Edition). -
Glenfarclas 21 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 21, 2021 (edited March 6, 2022)Initially, I got the aroma of banana pudding, but that was followed by that of strong gingerbread spices. The flavor is spicy, but only moderately sweet. Mint in the finish. 3 cl sample from The Premium Whisky Advent Calendar (2020 Edition). -
Glenfiddich 21 Year Reserva Rum Cask Finish
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 12, 2021As a fan of bourbon, I don’t get most of the comments here. This scotch has a fairly weak flavor, with a bit of smoke, and I find it dry rather than sweet. Vanilla, brown sugar, raisins…nope, none of those are there for me. Just disappointment. 3 cl sample from The Premium Whisky Advent Calendar (2020 Edition). -
Willett Pot Still Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 2, 2021 (edited March 29, 2024)Very nice. Delicious. Vanilla and a touch of citrus in the nose. The flavor is rich, moderately sweet, with wonderful floral notes and a bit of rye spice. The finish is long and pleasant, and ends with the faintest tingle of menthol. Slightly pricey, but you’re paying for the cool bottle, too.54.99 USD per BottleTotal Wine & More -
I was hoping that Kahlúa Especial would be better than regular Kahlúa, more like the Kahlúa I remember from two or three decades ago, but it’s not obviously so. People say it’s less sweet, but it’s still plenty sweet. It says “made for cocktails” right on the label. I’m sure it’s great in a Black Russian or White Russian. I added some milk. It’s fine, but nothing really especial.15.99 USD per BottleTotal Wine & More

Dirt-cheap knockoff of the original Irish cream, Baileys. It’s not made with Irish whiskey, but with “grape wine,” and it’s obvious even if it wasn’t written on the label. It’s not completely terrible at first sip, but then this gross, vomit-like flavor shows up in the finish. It might be okay in mixed drinks. My dad has no sense of taste and gave me this bottle; price is what matters to him. I think you get what you pay for, and recommend you spend more for Baileys or another, better knockoff.9.99 USD per BottleTotal Wine & More

Henry McKenna 10 Year Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 28, 2021 (edited March 29, 2024)Wow, that’s very nice. Sweet, with brown sugar, vanilla, and orange in the nose. Like an orange creamsicle. Spice, orange, and dark chocolate on the palette. Great, rich flavors. Well worth the price.59.99 USD per BottleTotal Wine & More
