Tastes

This should be listed as a flavored or spiced whiskey, as it’s a high-rye (95% rye, 5% barley) whiskey base combined with fresh, natural flavors. There’s blood orange and other citrus aromas in the nose. The same citrus flavors on the palette, along with vanilla and spices. Think of it as something like an Old Fashioned cocktail without any sweetness.

Moderate levels of peat smoke in the nose and on the palette. It’s a bit sweet, but also rather salty. There’s a fairly light amount of that BAND-AID aroma and flavor. Oh, and spicy pepper. Peat smoke and iodine in the nose, and even more of the same on the tongue. It’s well-balanced, though. Oily mouthfeel. Sweet, rich, and somewhat spicy. Sweet aroma, with vanilla, caramel or toffee, and a very nice hint of cotton candy. Sweet, rich flavor on the palette, with vanilla, caramel or toffee, a bit of alcohol burn, orange zest, and then brown sugar. Pleasant aroma, with a fairly light amount of peat smoke. The peat smoke is stronger on the palette, but it’s still relatively mild. Iodine appears in the long finish. The port influence may appear in the color, but I honestly don’t smell or taste it. It’s a good enough whisky, but I was surprised when I looked it up to see how much a full-size bottle costs. My second Swedish whisky. Unfortunately, it’s not a whole lot better than my first. Moment Karibien has a somewhat odd flavor, but it’s not nearly as strange and unpleasant as that of Moment Fjällmark. 3 cl sample from The Premium Whisky Advent Calendar (2020 Edition).

My first Swedish whisky. The aroma is relatively clean, but unremarkable. The taste is initially sweet, but then quickly changes to something earthy and rather unpleasant, like some sort of mushroom.
