I guess I just don’t get Irish whiskey, and I honestly can’t taste most of the flavors others mention in their reviews. This is perhaps slightly more flavorful than the Tullamore D.E.W. I recently tried, but I don’t like this flavor as much, so it’s actually a negative. I’m used to the far richer, more complex flavors of bourbons and rums, and find this Irish whiskey, like most I’ve tried so far, to be way too mild and relatively flavorless for my liking, especially for the price. You can get a very nice bourbon or rum for what this costs.53.99 USD per BottleTrader Joe's

Tullamore, Tullamore, Tullamore D.EW. I got bombarded by that ad for this Irish whiskey in the weeks leading up to St. Patrick’s Day, and obviously it worked since I went out and bought a bottle. Oh, and it was on sale at a supermarket for almost half off. I’m not a fan of Irish whiskey, but find this drinkable and even a little enjoyable. But, it’s light on everything. Light on aroma, light in body, and light on flavor. If you’re looking for the deep, rich flavors or the complex, long finish of a good bourbon or rum, look elsewhere.16.99 USD per BottleAlbertsons

Crossroads has a more complex aroma and isn’t quite as sweet as the company’s Juke Joint bourbon. The use of toasted French oak is certainly noticeable. The creamy mouthfeel, vanilla, and touch of orange bring orange creamsicles to mind, and that pleasant flavor lingers in the long finish.49.99 USD per BottleQuench - Wine & Spirits

Foursquare 2010 was recommended to me as a sipping rum worth splurging on. I’m a whiskey drinker and have been trying less expensive rums and like them all, more or less, but this one is truly an eye-opener and worth every penny. Sweet, with very rich aromas and flavors of vanilla and oak, plum butter, dates, stewed fruit, dark brown sugar, cocoa, and baking spices. There’s a lot going on in this rum. A hint of tobacco ash appears in the finish. Foursquare 2010 is rich and strong enough to stand out in a cocktail or a mixed drink, but I can only imagine drinking something this delicious neat so all the aromas and flavors are unadulterated and have a chance to shine.84.99 USD per BottleHi-Time Wine Cellars

Pleasant enough, and very easy to sip neat. Fairly subtle both in the nose and on the palette. Very sweet, with the usual oak and vanilla, plus hints of candy apple, juicy pear, and especially mandarine orange. Good rum for somebody who wants something they can sip neat, but would be put off by a higher-proof spirit or one with more intense flavors. It would probably be overwhelmed in a cocktail or a mixed drink.24.99 USD per BottleTrader Joe's

Rabbit Hole Dareringer Straight Bourbon Finished in PX Sherry Casks
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 7, 2024 (edited March 30, 2024)Elegant and refined, fairly sweet, with raisins, sherry, baking spices, and a bit of cherry appearing on my palette. Dareringer was my favorite in the flight I had at Rabbit Hole’s Overlook bar in Louisville—other than their truly eye-opening rye-barrel aged Bespoke Gin—and I still enjoy it very much today. It’s very easy-drinking given the proof.79.99 USD per BottleTotal Wine & More -
There’s nothing refined or subtle about this bold rye, which may or may not be a good thing. Black cherry and dark honey appear in the nose. On the palette, it’s sweet, with hints of the aforementioned cherries and honey, plus lots of strong rye spice. Hints of honey pop up in the finish, plus something floral, and a bit of numbing menthol. This bottle was a gift. The taste is unusual, and although interesting, I wouldn’t seek out another bottle.

Blue Note Juke Joint Straight Bourbon (93 Proof)
Bourbon — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed January 30, 2024 (edited April 18, 2024)Initially pretty sweet, with caramel, vanilla, corn, and baking spices on the palette. Long, drier finish with spices, a bit of oak, and vanilla. I sometimes get a little menthol in the finish, too.35.99 USD per BottleQuench - Wine & Spirits -
Jack Daniel's Green Label
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed January 29, 2024 (edited January 30, 2024)I saw this at The White Rabbit Bottle Shop while visiting the Jack Daniel Distillery. A sign said it’s only sold in five states, and California wasn’t one of them, so I took a bottle home. I was told the green label comes from the lower ricks of the warehouse and is aged 4–5 years, whereas the black label comes from the middle ricks and is aged 6–8 years. That being said, it tastes like a dilute, less mature version of the black label. It’s crisper and harsher, with the banana element more pronounced. I’m glad I tried it, but I wouldn’t seek out another bottle.35.0 USD per BottleThe White Rabbit Bottle Shop -
It’s got a pleasant pine aroma and a strong pine flavor, but is definitely not for everyone. I can imagine it reminding people of a cleaning solution. If you like pine or wood aromas and flavors, you may like this. If you want the same sort of aroma and flavor, but want it sweet, look for a liqueur called mastica, which I like a lot more.44.99 USD per BottleHi-Time Wine Cellars
