Nose: cherry, malty Palate: cherry, sweet, brown sugar Finish: I thought short at ifrst, but then it comes on strong and lingers (could be my heartburn). Overall: I bought a bunch of these bottles with different finishes and they’ve been okay. A sherry cask finish is usually a no brainer for me, but I’m not sure I’d rush to buy this again.

Nose: baking spice, spearmint Palate: spearmint cucumbers that are almost pickles in a good way, sips below the proof Finish: warm, short hug (like from your bro, not your mom) Overall: Great blended rye that tastes more complex that the 5yr+ age statement. This is a hitter. Also, that wasn’t a mom joke. Alsox2, I just read the tasting notes on the bottle and I get no fruit or brown sugar. I said what I said.

Nose: I like the nose, but there’s a little acetane in the back. Some sweetness. Palate: It’s not great. KC tastes like wet, fall leaves and not in a good way. This is a little less worse than that. Am I overreacting? Finish: It should be higher proof for the price, I think. Overall: I guess it’s a better version of KC, which is not a great whiskey in my opinion. It’s less nutty than most Beam products. I was hoping for $180 it’d be a can’t miss, however, this is one my biggest whiskey buy regrets.

Nose: sweet oak, powdered sugar, funnel cake Palate: sweet oak, sweet cardboard but in a good way Finish: warmth in the back, not overly proofy Overall: Some of these pours can be hit or miss, but I enjoy this one. Although more on the expensive side (this distiller…although forget the price of this bottle), I would buy again.

Old Elk Straight Wheated Bourbon
Bourbon — Colorado , USA
Reviewed December 1, 2023 (edited December 2, 2023)Nose: sweet, minty, flat(?), cardboard, bready, rich Palate: not very complex, thin, methol-y, drinks more lime a rye to me Finish: short Overall: I like a bunch of their pours, but this one isn’t my favorite. Not sweet like you would expect from a wheater. I think it has more of a Wild Turkey profile.
