Tastes

Nose: butterscotch, black licorice, youth Palate: malty, little bit of chocolate, tastes young Finish: short Overall: I like the other pours of UN I’ve had. This is not my favorite rye.

Nose: buttery, nutmeg Palate: sweet, a little malty Finish: I thought it would be more noticeable with a 124 proof (drinks below) Overall: Barrell blends can be really good at times, but I’m not sure they’re always worth the price. I’m not sure I’d buy this bottle again.

Nose: lifesaver, little bit of orange zest Palate: minty, spicey, wheat bread, balanced Finish: decent, but not terribly long Overall: I like this rye, but I wouldn’t say it’s memorable. That’s my take on a lot of Russell’s pours.

Nose: spices, those candy orange slices with the sugar on the outside, burnt sugar, toast Palate: wheat bread, toast Finish: good for the proof, warm Overall: I’m not a huge 4 Roses fan with more of the floral notes, but I like this one.

Nose: buttery spearmint, floral, curry spice (I know, weird) Palate: rich, full body, spearmint, pumpernickel bread Finish: drinks below proof, good warmth Overall: there’s a lot of whiskey I’ve tasted over the last 2+ years that aren’t worth the price to buy again. This isn’t one of them. It’s a solid rye that I’ll keep stocked on the shelf. Also, love the classic looking bottle and label; the bottle could be in a western.

Nose: sweetness, nutty Palate: sweet burnt toast with cardboard notes, nutty Finish: not proofy at all

Nose: baking spice, sweet cardboard Palate: leaves, tobacco, slight vanilla Finish: drinks like a lesser proof, warmth in the back

Nose: cherry, wine, grape, vanilla Palate: cherry, sweet wine, slight oak, manhattan light Finish: not terribly long Overall: like this one, tastes like a version of a manhattan

Nose: red fruit, grape, cherry, brown sugar, slight tobacco leaves, dusty library books Palate: complex and bold, brown sugar, vanilla Finish: long, warm finish Overall: so good, great legs, probably one of the best whiskeys I’ve had to this point (this review doesn’t do it justice)
