George Dickel No. 12
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed December 5, 2020 (edited January 28, 2021)Nose: Heavy vanilla and oak spices, fresh crushed peanut shells. A hint of green leaves as it opens up. Palate: smooth with lots of vanilla and oak spices battling for dominance. A little bit of caramel develops out of the midst of the others. Finish: very short and dry like a tannic white wine. Cinnamon sticks and a little bit of char end things. -
Nose: Sweet ripe orchard fruits like a nectarine or apricot. Honey and vanilla creep in as it opens more. Palate: A lot more honey and vanilla develop. A bit of oakiness as well mixes with that ripe nectarine/apricot from the nose. Finish: The ripe fruit turns more to an orange like zest and cedar wood box like character.

Reviewed October 31, 2020Nose: beach bonfire, think of great times at dusk at the beach. A bit of smoked honeyed ham. With a touch of pepper. Palate: a lot more of that seaside bonfire tasting, charcoal smoky. A slight medicinal taste that fades quickly to more of a vegetal/seaweed salad flavor. Finish: on the sweeter side of smoky, oily mouthfeel that lingers a while. -
Whiskey Del Bac Dorado Mesquite Smoked Single Malt
American Single Malt — Arizona, USA
Reviewed October 31, 2020Nose: Sweet bbq over an open fire. Higher end bbq sauce. Dried chili’s. Palate: more mesquite bbq sauce like at your favorite Texas bbq spot. Mild Adobe or mole sauce. Finish: smooth and lingering mesquite sweetness. -
Nose: Peaty but not over powering. Cooked apples, lemon peel and a creaminess to it. Palate: Again peaty, strong but not in the lingering sense. A Smokey bbq glaze flavor like the burnt ends at a bbq cook off. A bit of salt water breeze. Finish: more of those burnt ends and a little more peat. Ends with an old bookstore note to it.

Cragganmore 12 Year (2019 Special Release)
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed October 21, 2020Nose: Smokey, fall time. Burning leaves and wood burning fireplace. A salty bacon grease is eased up by a sweet fruitiness. Palate: a little peppery at first but softens to allow some toffee and Smokey salt to emerge. Finish: Chocolate citrus peel comes forth mixing well with the smokiness that’s been subtly there the entire time.
