Aroma is basic but interesting, it shows a bit of youth and raw malt character but not in a cloying new make way (though their new make is pretty good); Palate is less sweet and less farmy than aroma but it’s no less interesting; Finish is warm but short and I really wish it would stay around longer. All-in-all it’s a nicely-executed basic whisky, which is exactly what it’s meant to be.

Rittenhouse Famous Straight Rye 80 Proof
Rye — USA
Reviewed April 28, 2020 (edited October 24, 2023)A gem from the past. Aroma is a nice rye-heavy spicy profile with a touch of fruity sweetness; Palate is sweet and a touch coppery and moves through elegant and smooth (yes I said it) in a way that’s enticing but not boring; Finish fades out a bit oaky with a sweet kicker. -

Reviewed April 28, 2020 (edited April 29, 2020)Not too shabby. Aroma is nice and full with equal sweet and rustic tones; Palate is the best part with a complex delivery of fruity and dessert sweetness with balancing metallic, oaky and rustic spice tones; Finish is simple but expressive. -
Barrell Bourbon Batch 023
Bourbon — (bottled in) Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 22, 2020 (edited May 28, 2022)Enjoying the heck out of this. Aroma is heavy, bold and complex with nicely layered sweet and rustic notes; Palate is a wacky combo of elegant dessert and more rustic profiles that work very well together in a way that’s making me gravitate to this bottle a tad more than everything else on my shelf; Finish bundles the best and sends you home feeling wonderful. -
This is a damn good batch. Aroma is heavily oaked and paires well with the heavy layers of spices and dark sweets that float through; Palate is rustic heaviness meets delicate baked sweetness; Finish is one of the best bourbon finishes I’ve had, it’s simply perfect. On the whole, it’s almost as good as the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Hazmat.

Brilliantly executed. Aroma is deep and layered with beautiful nuances of tropical fruits and delicate notes of baking spices dancing among the heavier oak and malt notes; Palate is a deeper, more multifaceted, delivery of similar notes paired with a maltier backbone; Finish is warm and fades out fruity and spicy.
