Jack Daniel's Gentleman Jack
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed October 4, 2020 (edited December 18, 2020)Uncorking- this was a favorite before I really got into whiskey. Going back in I was surprised I still liked it. Huge banana on the nose. Brown sugar. Some vanilla especially on the back of the mouth. Opening and letting air hit the palate opens up string vanilla bean. Light spice. Lots of sweet with mellow and little burn. Finishes medium length with vanilla and banana cream. Oak is barely there along with hints of the char. It's not complex or requiring study to find any nuance, there isn't much. It's just a good basic bourbon and easy sipper.26.99 USD per Bottle -
Uncorking- cinnamon on the nose along with other baking spices. Warm bread and butter Taste is really strong of cinnamon sticks. This may be the strongest cinnamon I've ever tasted in a whiskey. Followed up by nutmeg and banana bread. It's like a Christmas bread in a glass. Very decent mouth feel and a medium finish. Unfortunately I don't love cinnamon but if you do this would be a home run. I was expecting a bit more bourbon flavor and that was not the case at all. This is mild with no burn or hug. More proof, especially if it balanced out the cinnamon would be a big improvement. On the other hand this in a spiced cider might make the season.49.99 USD per Bottle

Uncle Nearest 1856 Tennessee Whiskey (Sourced Whiskey)
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed September 27, 2020 (edited January 16, 2021)Nose vanilla and spice. More molasses or brown sugar than caramel. Spice on the pallette followed by almost a stale musty flavor. Finishes out long on vanilla with spice remaining. Bits of floral and herbs. Something just slightly off in mid taste is ruining it for me. I tasted it initially and didn't score it that day because I thought I was having an off day. It's almost a musty sulfuric taste both times. It's been a few weeks and it has remained. Tasted 2 others and they were fine. -
Pendleton Midnight Canadian Whisky
Canadian — Canada
Reviewed September 15, 2020 (edited February 26, 2021)Nose - Sweet caramel and leather. Taste- sweet almost fake brown sugar flavor. Some fruits like cherry. Hint of banana foster. Finish is very short. Easy to sip but something just putting me slightly off with a feeling of artificial. -
Uncorking - nose- spices like cloves jump out. Pepper and dark berries are for front. Not a lot of sweet and hints of vanilla in the back. Taste- That spice comes through strong followed by some sweetness. Really similar to Willet 4 yr Rye. It's interesting but I'd really need to be in the mood to do this one.

Baker's Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 13, 2020 (edited January 13, 2022)Nose - nutty and leather. Oak and orange zest. This is the umami of whiskey. All rich and intense. Taste- sweeter than the nose but followed by some spice and heat. I expected this to be more like a Booker's but it's a different direction and I like it. More clove and spice balanced with the caramelized sweetness. A tiny bit of bitterness is the only distraction but to be fair I am drinking this against a 2019 George T Stagg so take that with some salt. -
Nose - sweet caramel and fried sweet breads dusted in powder sugar, oak and light smoke, baked sweet gala apples. Taste- all sweet on the tip with caramel and toasted demura sugars as it turns to spices and oak. Warming but not hot. Almost cotton candy in places. Strong vanilla and cherry. Better less bitter cherry than I have ever had. Mouthfeel is creamy and oily. Summary - Everything is turned up to 11 on this from nose to taste and nothing offends. I had to make myself slow down to enjoy the long finish because I wanted more instantly. This is as near a perfect bourbon as I have ever had.

Early Times Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 12, 2020 (edited September 13, 2020)Uncorking- Light nose and nothing jumping out besides vanilla and sweetness. Taste - Sweet, spice, orange peel, caramel. Not complex or strong but enjoyable. A short finish with oak and leather followed rounded with smokey mellow sweetness but a surprisingly good flavor for a seriously low price. Great budget buy. -
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch B520
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 11, 2020 (edited September 24, 2020)Uncorking- Nose- lots of alcohol, toasted coconut, spices, vanilla, oak. Taste - hardwood sawdust, walnut shells, peanuts, caramel, vanilla, spice, clove, leather and dark cherries. Finishes- leather and oak, peanuts and menthol. Really powerful, really tasty and a surprising value if you can find it. Loving it so decided to pour a little more and put this head to head against one of my favorite BP - Stagg Jr. Stagg is one of the only bottles I always keep a spare.around Stagg hits sweeter and hotter. It's dark caramels and rich, vanilla and dessert..... then when I tried this again the EC BP was way nuttier and more complex. More wood and dust but I think it will vary by my mood but I never expected this to stand toe to toe with a top fav.
