Westland Peated American Single Malt
American Single Malt — Washington, USA
Reviewed September 11, 2020Uncorking. Nose - smoke, sweet malts, warm banana bread w butter. Taste - sweet, light fruit, honey, sesame oil, light char. It's similar to a islay scotch but enough difference to stand out. Less wood smoke than High West and less peat and more sweet than most Islays. This is a nice balance. Finishes with more peat and smoke, vanilla and oak. -

Ardbeg Auriverdes
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed September 7, 2020 (edited January 24, 2021)Uncorking. Very excited to find this bottle. Light gold color. Much lighter than most Ardbeg with a mild nose, salty breeze, very sweet and gentle smokey meat & peat. Nose all in the glass and no burning nostrils despite 49.9abv. Taste is salty/briny as anything I have had. Lots of sweet vanilla, coffee and toasted sugars. Surprisingly subtle for Ardbeg. Then fades into dark chocolate and coffee on the finish with a bit more of the salt and smoke. The reviews are mixed on this one but I would go buy another bottle right now if they had one at the $149.99 U.S. I paid.149.99 USD per Bottle -
Michter's US*1 American Whiskey
Other Whiskey — USA
Reviewed September 6, 2020 (edited September 7, 2020)Uncorking- light but pleasant nose of sweet corn grains and dark sugars. Almost fruity oatmeal. Taste is soft and easy to drink but plenty of flavor. rich with lots of vanilla and caramel but not harsh at all. Still get a bit of heat and spice in the finish followed by dry apricots and some nuttiness. With the cereal and fruit think weird trail mix. This would be an easy recommend for someone branching out from entry brands. -
Uncorking - my 100th taste! I get a lot of alcohol in the nose for a 91 proof. Familiar vanilla oak and caramel but very sweet with almost sugary nuts and hints of spice. Almost an amaretto in the nose at times. Taste is vanilla and oak, followed by a quick punch of spice. Shortish finish with almost lingering tannins. Chew on it and I can get orange bitters and hints at a dark chocolate.

Jack Daniel's Tennessee Straight Rye
Rye — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed September 6, 2020 (edited October 30, 2020)This is a very approachable rye. With vanilla and almost maple in the nose with the rye spice. Before you get air on the tongue its all vanilla and caramel. Then the rye come sin as your taste buds hit the air. The taste doesn't burn but it does bring some spice in the end. Like a dark sweet rye bread. I get light mint but less than many ryes. -
Booker's Bourbon Batch 2020-02 "Boston Batch"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 2, 2020 (edited September 4, 2020)Uncorking - nose roasted nuts, vanilla, light spice and maybe a hint of citrus rind barely in the back. Taste - better than it smells. Spikey on the tongue in a way I love. Balanced but strong in a great way. Lots of hug after a few sips. Lingers spice in the tongue with peanuts and bitter cherry. Finishes with some corn, hints of caramel that bitterness and almost an earthy mossy quality I'm going to need to come back to. The reviews way undersold this for my pallet. I'm pleasantly surprised. I'll try it against Granny's Batch and Country Ham soon. -
Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch B520
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 2, 2020 (edited February 21, 2021)Uncorking- Caramel, vanilla, apple, vanilla wafers on the nose. Taste lots of oak, vanilla, caramel, apple skins, brown sugar, surprisingly easy to drink. Finishes with more oak, caramel stays on the tongue, mild chocolate and virtually no burn. This was a big jump from the base larceny. -
Jack Daniel's Tennessee Straight Rye
Rye — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed September 1, 2020 (edited September 14, 2020)Lots of spice, vanilla and bannana on nose. Cherry mint, vanilla on the taste with some rye spice but lighter than most rye, then closes with burnt sugar sweetness, bannana and a little minty greens then bits of banana, coming through again at the end that fades from real banana to almost banana runts. Tastes like a thin high rye bourbon almost. -
Uncorking- even with the glass on the table I was smelling almost a brandy finish of dark fruits over the top of caramel, peanuts and vanilla. Tasting I got spice spiking, then green and yellow apple skins, a little bit of nuttiness, oak and dry popcorn, dark berries. More jammy fruit in the finish which didn't linger like I expected.
