Balvenie DoubleWood 17 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 30, 2018 (edited January 15, 2019)This is a winter in a cabin type of scotch. Warm smoky and sweet on both the nose and palate. All the same flavors of the 12 to me just turned up a notch. -
Balvenie Single Barrel 15 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 30, 2018 (edited December 31, 2018)Oak and vanilla dominate the nose with a bit of peat smokiness coming through. Surprisingly gentle on the nose for the proof but in a good way. The proof definitely comes through in the palate though punching you with oak, vanilla, and a spice I can only say resembles more cardamom and ginger but definitely not cinnamon. The proof gives a longer finish which is much appreciated. -
Balvenie Doublewood 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 30, 2018 (edited December 31, 2018)Malt, peat, and raisin and apricot on the nose. Overall a very gentle nose that anyone could get into and no one note stands out more than the others. The palate is initially cherry and gently fruit flavors with peat overtones. The finish is smoky and peaty but not unpleasant. I'd imagine this is a great introduction to the different flavors you could find in scotch -
Vanilla and cinnamon all day on the nose but where this bourbon shines is on the palette. Bright and shiny vanilla and lemon iced tea. Actually reminds me a bit of a thicker and slightly more sparkly Van Winkle 15. A bit heavy on the vanilla but such a fantastic bourbon I don't even mind. Finish is long with only vanilla and the faintess hints of black tea. The mouth feel with this puppy is amazing though so you'll hardly want to experience the finish!

Wild Turkey Master's Keep Decades
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 20, 2018 (edited November 9, 2019)The nose is to die for. I'd want this in a candle in my house burning 24/7. Strong oak and burnt caramel on the nose. The palette is surprisingly lacking compared to the nose with the same oak and caramel with very strong cinnamon spice accompanying it through the finish. Super long and spicy finish leaves you warm and comfy. -
Nose is very similar to Russel's Reserve 10, just an amped up version. Smells like a shoe store with spilled orange juice on the floor. The usual vanilla and a bit of spice also accompanies the above smells. The palette is thick bodies and reminds me of a spicy maple syrup. A bit of chili, a bit of maple syrup, some dark berries, vanilla, and some burnt orange. The finish is medium which leaves you wanting more!

Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 20, 2018Nose is filled with decadent dark fruit and a ton of vanilla. None of the leathery notes I tend to find in Wild Turkey products. The palette starts off with a kick of vanilla and honey which quickly leads to a dark fruity, berry-y notes. The finish is very oaky and strangely enough has me thinking of hubba bubba bubblegum. The finish is also long and intense. Medium bodied and super yummy! -
Russell's Reserve 10 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 20, 2018 (edited December 29, 2018)On the nose is orange peel, light vanilla, and a dry leatheryness. The palette is thick with notes of strong cherry syrup, dark chocolate, leather, and a cinnamon spice. Very toasty throughout and leaves a mintyness on the tongue in the finish. -
Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt (Discontinued)
Blended Malt — Japan
Reviewed November 15, 2018 (edited December 4, 2018)Butterscotch and barrel smoke presented in a light and delicate way on the nose. Behind that is some dried fruit and cherry syrup. The palate is very balanced and lightweight, almost like a smoked sake. Some of those dry fruit sherry notes show up with some slight citrus. It then moves towards a sweet cherry then finishing off with a bit of a black tea or coffee finish. Not a whole lot going on here but definitely not a one trick pony! Personally this has all the characteristics of something I'd drink regularly. Bit of smoke, bit of sweetness, bit of richness, and all the luxury of enjoying a Japanese whiskey.0.0 USD per BottleTrader Joe's
